The backup memory may allow the replaceable device information to be transferred to another image forming apparatus, for example, when exchanging replaceable devices from a failing apparatus to a replacement apparatus.

The device includes a motor; a pick mechanism operatively connected to the motor, a first gear set having a first ratio and operatively connecting the motor to the pick mechanism, a feed nip operatively connected to the motor to receive the media sheet and forward the media sheet along a media path, and a second gear set having a second gear ratio and operatively connecting the motor to the feed nip. The motor may operate at a constant speed and drive the pick mechanism at a first speed and the feed nip at a second speed. The first and second speeds may be the same, or the speeds may be different.

    摘要: A system is described for compensating for misalignments in an ink jet printer having an ink jet print head cartridge that includes a heater chip. The system includes determining alignment adjustment information related to the misalignments in the ink jet printer, loading the alignment adjustment information into a volatile memory device on the heater chip, and accessing the alignment adjustment information from the volatile memory device. The system also includes generating nozzle control signals based at least in part on the alignment adjustment information. The nozzle control signals are selectively provided to resistive heating elements in the heater chip, thereby heating ink in ink chambers adjacent the heating elements and ejecting ink droplets toward a print medium. The timing of the nozzle control signals is adjusted based upon the amount of misalignment in the various components of the printer and print head. The timing adjustments are applied to groups of nozzles so that dots printed by one group are substantially vertically aligned with dots printed by another group, thereby reducing the amount of perceptible skew in the printed output.

    摘要: An apparatus and method insures that the ink supply in a disposable on carrier secondary ink tank and the ink supply in a semi-permanent base cartridge are compatible before a refilling operation is allowed to occur for an ink jet printer cartridge. A first memory is located in the base cartridge assembly and a second memory is located in the secondary ink tank. Compatibility information concerning properties such as the type, color and formulation of the ink supplies in the base cartridge assembly and secondary ink tank is saved in the first and second memories. Before a refilling operation is commenced, the compatibility information is examined to determine if the ink supplies in the secondary ink tank and base cartridge assembly are compatible. If the ink supplies are compatible, a flow control device is activated to allow the refilling operation to begin. If the ink supplies are incompatible, the flow control device prevents the ink supplies from mixing and an alarm is produced that informs the user of the printer that the ink supplies are incompatible. The first and second memories are also employed to limit a base cartridge assembly to being refilled with secondary ink tanks belonging to a certain set of secondary ink tanks. The methods and apparatus described in the specification enable continued high quality printing for the life of the printhead.

    摘要: A container having a fixed volume sealed from the atmosphere by an elastic septum is filled with liquid via a needle inserted through the septum, the needle providing a path for liquid flow into the fixed volume from an external source through the septum and a path for air flow from the fixed volume to atmosphere through the septum. The needle includes a stem having a hollow tube with a non-cylindrical section and a cover element cooperating with the non-cylindrical section of the tube to form an air passage and give the stem a cylindrical configuration even in the region of the non-cylindrical section of the tube. The configuration of the stem minimizes damage to the septum as the stem is inserted through or withdrawn from a septum, while the air passage permits air to exit from the container through the stem as liquid enters the container through the tube.

    摘要: The present application is directed to methods and devices for moving a cartridge between engaged and disengaged positions in an image forming device. The image forming device may include a bias control arm movable between first and second positions. When the bias control arm is in one of the first and second positions, a biasing force on the cartridge is reduced and the cartridge moves to the disengaged position. When the bias control arm is in the other of the first and second positions, a biasing force on the cartridge is increased and the cartridge is moved to the engaged position. In one embodiment, the bias control arm moves in a first direction, and the cartridge moves in a second direction different than the first direction.
