Abstract:
Described herein is a new concept in air dried tissue (ADT). The wet tissue web is received from the wet end of a papermaking machine and dried by an air floatation dryer that uses an endless loop to transport and support the wet tissue web as it is dried.

Abstract:
A press assembly for use in a paper-making machine includes a roll, a first air press backing assembly and a second air press backing assembly. The first air press backing assembly and the second air press backing assembly each include an inner wall, an outer support structure and a plurality of inflatable hoses interposed between the inner wall and the outer support structure. The inner wall is positioned adjacent to and defines an air chamber with the roll.
Abstract:
A paper-making machine includes at least one roll for carrying a fiber web or a belt. At least one of the rolls includes a shell formed from a composite material; a journal comprised of metal; and a head interposed between and interconnecting the shell and the journal. The head is also formed from a composite material.
Abstract:
A headbox for a paper-making machine includes a plurality of side walls and an apron. A nozzle blade is connected to one of the side walls. The nozzle blade and the apron define a discharge nozzle therebetween. A profile bar is rigidly connected to an end of the nozzle blade. A slice lip is rigidly and removably attached to the profile bar and/or nozzle blade. The slice lip and the apron define a discharge outlet therebetween.
Abstract:
A wet end of a paper-making machine, including a headbox with a chamber and a discharge nozzle. A turbulence generator is connected with the headbox and includes a plurality of fluid passages disposed substantially parallel to each other. Each fluid passage is in fluid communication with the headbox chamber and has an inlet. All of the inlets conjunctively define a fluid inlet area. A fiber stock delivery device includes at least one outlet, with all of the outlets conjunctively defining a fluid discharge area. Each outlet is configured to discharge the fiber stock in a direction substantially parallel to the fluid passages in the turbulence generator. The fluid discharge area of the fiber stock delivery device is smaller than the fluid inlet area of the turbulence generator. A hydraulic increaser interconnects the fluid discharge area of the fiber stock delivery device with the fluid inlet area of the turbulence generator. The hydraulic increaser includes at least two interior abutting surfaces, with each abutting surface having at least one end defining an adjoining edge with another said abutting surface. Each abutting surface defines a line at each end which is disposed tangent to the abutting surface at the respective end. Each tangent line defines an acute angle with a tangent line of an adjacent abutting surface which is between approximately 1.degree. and 10.degree. preferably not greater than approximately 4.degree..
Abstract:
A paper-making machine for making a paper web from a fiber suspension includes a headbox having a plurality of walls defining a chamber, and an inlet connected to at least one of the walls and disposed in fluid communication with the chamber. The inlet is configured to receive the fiber suspension. The headbox also has a discharge nozzle disposed in fluid communication with the chamber. The discharge nozzle defines an outlet from which the fiber suspension is discharged. The headbox also includes a sonic transducer, associated with the discharge nozzle, for transmitting sonic energy into the fiber suspension within the discharge nozzle and thereby substantially deflocculating the fiber suspension within the discharge nozzle.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a guide connectable to a paper roll in a paper machine for moving an end of the roll in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the roll. The guide includes a roll mounting frame connectable to the roll, a support frame, and at least one elongate member interconnecting the support frame with the roll mounting frame. The at least one elongate member is elastically deformable in the transverse direction and thereby allows movement of the roll mounting frame relative to the support frame in the transverse direction. A positioning device is engaged with the roll mounting frame for moving the roll mounting frame in the transverse direction and maintaining the roll mounting frame in one of a plurality of positions relative to the support frame.
Abstract:
A headbox for a paper machine, with a main chamber through the lower part of which flows fiber suspension in the longitudinal machine direction. The main chamber has on the upstream end a first perforated roll and a machine-wide feed channel as well as on the downstream end a second perforated roll and a machine-wide nozzle type outlet channel. Provided between the perforated rolls is a vertical partition which is vertically adjustable, creating between the bottom of the main chamber and the partition a machine-wide channel section which is variable in its height. The downstream outside surface of the partition has a convex shape, in a fashion such that the clearance of the channel section increases in the direction of flow.
Abstract:
A method of geologic exploration for subsurface deposits includes the steps of: emitting energy below a surface of the earth; sensing a plurality of reactive electro-magnetic waves resulting from the emitted energy; outputting signals from a plurality of sensors to a vehicle corresponding to the sensed reactive electro-magnetic waves; determining position data for the plurality of sensors; generating position marked data corresponding to the outputted signals and the position data; uploading the position marked data from the vehicle to a satellite; and relaying the position marked data from the satellite to a remote analyzing station.
