摘要: Transmit power control methods and apparatus are disclosed. In several embodiments, a mobile terminal (200) is configured to effectively ignore ‘UP’ transmit power control commands in the event that the mobile terminal (200) is operating in a power-limited state. In an exemplary method for controlling transmit power at a mobile terminal (200), a plurality of transmit power control commands are received. An accumulated power control value is adjusted (350) in response to each transmit power control command that directs a negative adjustment in transmit power. However, the accumulated power control value is adjusted (350) in response to a transmit power control command that directs a positive adjustment in transmit power only if the mobile terminal (200) is not in a power-limited state. Transmit power settings for each transmission are calculated (360) based on the accumulated power control value and the one or more radio link parameters.

摘要: The present invention provides a method, a radio base station (40) and a mobile terminal (50) for allocating resources in a telecommunications network, where communications between the radio base station (40) and the mobile terminal (50) take place over a plurality of carriers. The method comprises transmitting and receiving a resource allocation message comprising one or more bits. Each of the bits corresponds to a number of resource blocks, where the number is determined from the ratio of the aggregate bandwidth of the plurality of carriers divided by the bandwidth of the carrier over which the resource allocation message is sent.

摘要: The technology described in this case facilitates random access by a user terminal with a radio base station. A user terminal determines one of a first type of uplink scrambling sequences and generates a random access message using the determined one of the first type of uplink scrambling sequences. The random access message is transmitted to the base station. The user terminal receives from the base station a second, different type of uplink scrambling sequence and uses it for subsequent communication with the radio base station. For example, the first uplink scrambling sequences may be specifically associated with the radio base station's cell area or a random access radio channel associated with the radio base station, but they are not specifically assigned to any user terminal, and the second uplink scrambling sequence may be selected from a second set of uplink scrambling sequences specifically assignable to individual user terminals.

摘要: A radio base station transmits data symbols to a mobile terminal on multiple frequency carriers, e.g., in accordance with the MC-WCDMA or cmda2000 3x air interface protocols. The radio base station instructs the mobile terminal to report channel quality measurements obtained by the terminal for the multiple carriers over the same uplink channel during successive reporting intervals. According to one embodiment, the mobile terminal reports channel quality by receiving data symbols transmitted on a plurality of frequency carriers in a multi-carrier CDMA environment and measuring channel quality for the different frequency carriers. The mobile terminal reports individual ones of the channel quality measurements over the same uplink channel during successive reporting intervals.

摘要: Data packets are efficiently combined to fit into a transmission interval. A current communications condition, e.g., the current channel quality, is detected and used to select an appropriate combination of modulation and channel encoding parameters. However, data packets are combined and pre-encoded before the modulation and/or coding scheme (MCS) to be used in a specific transmission interval is known. Once the MCS is known for the transmission interval, an appropriate number of pre-processed data blocks are combined. Some complex packet processing operations can be performed in advance, without any knowledge of the MCS.

摘要: The present invention provides a flexible ARQ scheme. A communications channel is set up between a transmitter and a receiver. A value is selected for an ARQ parameter for data packets to be transmitted over the communications channel. The ARQ parameter value may be selected in accordance with a trade-off between a desired performance or goal, e.g., a specific throughput of data packets transmitted over the communications channel, and one or more communication resources required to support the desired performance or goal. An example of an ARQ parameter is a number of outstanding data packets to be acknowledged by the receiver before more packets can be sent to the receiver. Another parameter example is a delay associated with the ARQ scheme. In a preferred, non-limiting example embodiment, first and second ARQ parameter values are selected for a desired trade-off Accordingly, a specific number of outstanding data packets to be acknowledged by the receiver and an acknowledgement or retransmission delay can be selected to achieve a desired performance, e.g., a desired throughput of data packets, at a particular resource cost. Because of the flexibility provided by the present invention, a communications device may set its own objectives for a particular connection based upon one or more performance requirements, communication resources, or other requirements.
