A high rate packet data communication system and method are provided that can control a rate of a plurality of forward channels by transmitting/receiving data rate control (DRC) information over at least one DRC channel. In the system, at least one mobile station (MS) determines a transmission time of the DRC information such that a transmission period of the DRC information for each of the forward channels is equal, and sequentially transmits the DRC information repeatedly for the forward channels over at least one DRC channel for a predetermined number of slots. A base station (BS) determines a rate of a corresponding forward channel based on the DRC information received over at least one DRC channel.

In the method, the mobile station receives a broadcast service parameter message including parameters for a broadcast service, and transmits desired broadcasting data along with a packet data channel assignment request message based on the parameters. Further, the mobile station receives a packet data channel assignment message for the desired broadcast service in response to the packet data channel assignment request message. Thereafter, the mobile station decodes reception data on a packet data control channel corresponding to the assigned packet data channel to acquire control information, receives packet data on a packet data channel for the broadcast service according to the control information, and processes the received packet data as broadcast service data.

A system and method for synchronizing Broadcast/Multicast Service (BCMCS) traffic in a mobile communication system connected to a BCMCS server. A Packet Data Service Node (PDSN) receives a BCMCS content frame from the BCMCS server, and transmits a corresponding Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packet BCMCS content frame, including a sequence number and a timestamp value indicating when the GRE packet BCMCS content frame is transmitted, to Packet Control Functions (PCF) connected downstream of the PDSN. Each of the PCFs determines whether the GRE packet BCMCS content frame received from the PDSN is valid, based on the sequence number included therein. If the GRE packet BCMCS content frame is valid, the PCF transmits the frame to its lower nodes connected downstream of the PCF, while synchronizing the frame transmission, based on the timestamp value included in the frame.

The AN sends, to the AT, a soft configuration complete message including a continue bit indicating if another session configuration is added. The AN and the AT store a negotiated session configuration mapped to a personality index indicated in the message. When all session configurations have been completed, the AN and the AT determine if a session configuration currently in use has been changed. If the session configuration in use has not been changed, the AT and the AN maintain a physical channel. Moreover, the AN sends information indicating if a specific session configuration is applied after session configuration negotiation is completed.

A PDU is generated by formatting a reverse traffic to have a header and a payload according to the determined multiplex option.
