摘要: Apparatus for controlling ink in a continuous ink jet printer in which a continuous stream of ink is emitted from a nozzle includes a nozzle bore to establish a continuous stream of ink; a heater having a plurality of selectively independently actuated sections which are positioned along respectively different portions of the nozzle bore; a variable power source for the heater sections; and an actuator adapted to selectively activate none, one, or a plurality of said heater sections with an adjustable amount of power such that actuation of heater sections associated with only a portion of the entire nozzle bore perimeter produces an asymmetric application of heat to the stream to control the direction and the amount of deflection of the stream as a function of the amount of power of the activated heater sections.

摘要: A colorant transfer printhead for viewing or delivering color segments of ink to a receiver, including a plurality of color channels, having a structure for delivering ink color segments to the color channels. The colorant transfer printhead or transfers ink from the ink color segments in the color channels to the receiver in response to energy applied to the ink color segments to cause ink from such ink color segments to be transferred to the receiver.

摘要: A printhead includes a nozzle and a jet control element. The jet control element includes a continuous heater element positioned to surround the nozzle and a plurality of three or more electrical contacts in electrical communication with the continuous heater element. The plurality of three or more electrical contacts define a plurality of three or more continuous heater element portions that are actuatable with sufficient independence so as to control jet steering. The number of the continuous heater element portions equals the number of electrical contacts.

A plurality of three or more electrical contacts is in electrical communication with the continuous heater element. The plurality of three or more electrical contacts define a plurality of three or more continuous heater element portions that are actuatable with sufficient independence so as to control jet steering. The number of the continuous heater element portions equals the number of electrical contacts. A liquid is provided under a pressure sufficient to eject a jet of liquid through the nozzle. A waveform is applied to at least one of the plurality of three or more electrical contacts using a controller to affect at least one of the plurality of independently actuatable continuous heater element portions to control the jet of liquid.

摘要: A printer includes a printhead and a source of liquid. The printhead includes a nozzle bore. The liquid is under pressure sufficient to eject a column of the liquid through the nozzle bore. The liquid has a temperature. A thermal modulator is associated with the nozzle bore. The thermal modulator is operable to transiently lower the temperature of the liquid as the liquid is ejected through the nozzle bore. An electrical pulse source is in electrical communication with the thermal modulator. The electrical pulse source is operable to provide a series of pulses to the thermal modulator that control the transient temperature lowering of the liquid. The series of pulses includes a first pulse applied at a first power level for transferring heat to the liquid, a second pulse applied at a second power level for transferring heat to the liquid, and a third pulse applied at a third power level for transferring heat to the liquid. The third power level is in between the first power level and the second power level.
