Abstract: According to at least one aspect, a method for predictive Intra coding is provided. The method comprises: determining a set of Intra prediction modes used for prediction unit (PU) blocks with a plurality of different block sizes comprising a 4×4 block size and at least two other block sizes; applying predictive Intra coding to a first PU block having a first block size that matches a block size in the plurality of different block sizes based on one or more neighboring PU blocks according to a first Intra prediction mode selected from the set of Intra prediction modes; and applying predictive Intra coding to a second PU block having a second block size that is different from the first block size and matches a block size in the plurality of different block sizes according to a second Intra prediction mode selected from the set of Intra prediction modes.

Abstract: A method of video coding with reduced implementation cost by reusing transform coefficient buffer palette for palette coding is disclosed. If the current prediction mode is an Intra prediction mode or the Inter prediction mode, information related to transform coefficients for prediction residual of the current block resulted from Intra prediction or Inter prediction is stored in the transform coefficient buffer. If the current prediction mode is the palette coding mode, information related to palette data associated with the current block is stored in the transform coefficient buffer. The current block is then encoded or decoded based on the information related to the transform coefficients if the current block is coded in the Intra prediction mode or the Inter prediction mode, or the information related to the palette data stored in the transform coefficient buffer if the current prediction mode is the palette coding mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus perform palette coding of a block of video data by initializing the palette or triplet palette or using a selected palette or triplet palette from a preceding image area for the beginning block of the current image area. The method receives input data associated with a current image area consisting of multiple blocks. For the beginning block, coding palette predictor is determined based on an initial palette or triplet palette or based on a selected palette or triplet palette associated with a selected block located at a location before the end of a preceding image area. For blocks of the current image area, palette coding is applied to the blocks, where at least one block uses the palette predictor for the beginning block as the palette predictor.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are directed to applying deblocking filter to block boundaries in a video coding system including an IntraBC (Intra-block copy) mode. For at least one combination of the two neighboring reconstructed blocks including at least one IntraBC coded block in the two neighboring reconstructed blocks, a boundary filter strength equal to one or zero is selected based on coding parameters associated with the two neighboring reconstructed blocks. Deblocking filter is then applied to neighboring samples of the two neighboring reconstructed blocks around the block boundary using the boundary filter strength selected. For example, when the two neighboring reconstructed blocks correspond to one IntraBC coded block and one Inter coded block, the boundary filter strength is set to one.

Abstract: Methods and Apparatus of managing decoded picture buffer for a video decoding system using Intra Block Copy (IBC) mode. In one embodiment, one or more previously reconstructed pictures after in-loop filtering are stored in a DPB (decoded picture buffer). For decoding a current picture, a first and a second picture buffers are allocated in the DPB. Both unfiltered version and filtered version of reconstructed current picture are stored in the first and second picture buffers. After the current picture is decoded, the unfiltered version is removed from the DPB. In another embodiment, an unfiltered version and filtered version of reconstructed current picture are stored. One of them is stored in the DPB and the other is stored in a temporary buffer. After the current picture is decoded, the unfiltered version is removed from the DPB or the temporary buffer.

Abstract: A method for palette coding is disclosed. In an encoder side, the method determines whether a first block is coded using a palette coding mode or a non-palette coding. If the first block is coded using the non-palette coding mode, a first color table for the first block is derived based on one or more color tables associated with one or more previously processed blocks. If the first block is coded using the palette coding mode, the first color table is derived from the first block. A second block coded after the first block may use the first color table as a palette prediction. At the decoder side, if the current block is coded using the palette coding mode, a first color table based on a previous coded block is derived and the current block is decoded using a first color table as a palette predictor.

Abstract: A method of screen content coding (SCC) and video coding using coding modes including IntraBC mode (Intra-block copy mode) is disclosed. In one embodiment, a Merge candidate list including one or more IntraBC Merge candidates and one or more Inter Merge candidates is derived. If an IntraBC Merge candidate is selected from the Merge candidate list for the current block, the current motion information of the current block is encoded or decoded by sharing candidate motion information of the selected IntraBC Merge candidate as the current motion information of the current block, and the current block is encoded or decoded using a coded block in the current picture located according to the current motion information as an IntraBC predictor. The candidate motion information or the current motion information may include one or more elements selected from a motion information group consisting of coding mode, displacement vector and reference picture information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of video coding for a block of depth data or texture data coded in SSM (Single Sample Mode) are disclosed. Embodiments according to the present invention construct a sample candidate list comprising one or more single color candidates corresponding to one or more representative samples of one or more previous SSM-coded blocks, or one or more palette color candidates corresponding to one or more previously used colors in one or more previous palettes associated with one or more palette-coded blocks, or both. A selected sample candidate is then determined from the sample candidate list and the selected sample candidate is used to encode or decode the current block by representing the whole current block by this selected sample candidate. Spatial and/or temporal candidates from previously SSM-coded blocks can also be included in the sample candidate list.
