摘要： A sheet conveying apparatus and an original reading apparatus according to the present invention can reduce a load of a drive system for rotating a convey rotary member and can be made compact. The apparatus includes an original convey roller rotatably supported by a frame, and a contact sensor holder rockably held by a contact sensor rotation shaft regulated in a thickness-wise direction of an original by a contact sensor holder rotation shaft holding portion of the frame and adapted to hold a second contact sensor in a confronting relation to the original convey roller. The second contact sensor is urged against the original convey roller by an urging spring.

At least a portion of the feeding path of the recording sheet is common to at least a portion of the feeding path of the document, and the image reading portion can be set to a first position moved from the common feeding path and to a second position at which the image of the document that is fed through the common feeding path is read, and a reading position at which the image is read by the image reading portion is located downstream of the image forming portion in a recording sheet feeding direction.

The feeding roller is located above the recording medium stacking means, and at least the lower end of the recording medium stacking means is movable in the direction approaching or moving away from the feeding roller. The document stacking means is attached above and substantially parallel to the recording medium stacking means, at a predetermined interval. Further, the document stacking means does not have a support portion at a location corresponding to the feeding roller, and is moved as the recording medium stacking means is moved.
