Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body, a door, a first guide, a second guide configured to move from a first position to a second position, a first illumination device, and a second illumination device. The first illumination device is configured to illuminate a door side of the second guide positioned in the second position, with the door side of the second guide being closer to the door than a conveyance center line of the conveyance path in a width direction orthogonal to a sheet conveyance direction of a sheet which is conveyed in the conveyance path. The second illumination device is configured to illuminate in a direction different from a direction in which the first illumination device illuminates, and the second illumination device is configured to illuminate a space between the first guide and the second guide positioned in the second position.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a processor configured in which an area to be processed in a document is specified using a position of a marker placed on a surface of the document. When the marker is placed, the processor uses a placement position of the marker to specify the area to be processed and register area information indicating the area to be processed. When the marker is not placed and the area information is registered, the processor executes predetermined processing with respect to the area to be processed that is indicated by the area information. When the marker is not placed and the area information is not registered, if the area information is registered after a predetermined area of the document is registered as a target, the processor specifies the area to be processed as indicated by the area information as the area to be targeted by the processing.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a post-processor including a sheet detection circuit detecting a sheet inserted in a sheet insertion opening for manual stapling, a staple mechanism executing stapling processing on the sheet, and a drive circuit actuating the staple mechanism; a post-processing controller operating the drive circuit in response to detection of the sheet; a power circuit supplying power to the drive circuit and another circuit in the apparatus; and a power saving controller shutting off a power supply from the power circuit to the drive circuit and the other circuit and shifting from a normal mode to a power saving mode when a shifting condition is satisfied. Prior to shifting, the power saving controller checks the post-processing controller whether the stapling processing is currently executed, and, when the stapling processing is not currently executed, instructs prohibition of the stapling processing and shifts to the power saving mode.

The third driving device to move the documents along the document conveying path onto the image sensor using the driving force of the motor. The first and second sensors detect the documents on the document conveying path. The processor controls an operation of the first clutch based on the signals of the first and second sensors.

Abstract: Methods and system are disclosed for a double-feed detector with neural network classifier. These includes accepting pages of a print-based media substrate into a scanning device with a paper feed device, back-illuminating the pages using a light source, capturing a page image of back-illuminated pages using an image capture device, detecting noise patterns exhibited by the page image using an image processor, classifying detected noise patterns using a noise pattern classifier, and determining, using classified detected noise patterns and a neural network controller for a neural network model, whether the at least one page is a sheet stack (at least two pages stacked together and passing through the paper feed device concurrently) based on the classified detected noise patterns. On condition a sheet stack is detected, a sheet stack detected signal triggers taking an action.

Abstract: An image reading device includes: a platen on which a document is placed; a platen cover openable and closable with respect to the platen; a cover-open sensor which detects a fact that the open/close angle of the platen cover has passed a predetermined angle from a close state; a CCD line sensor including charge coupled devices (CCD) arranged for recording a variation in distribution for a fixed period of time of incident light when detecting passing of the platen cover; a variation amount calculator which calculates a variation amount of incident light at each distribution point on the basis of a variation in distribution recorded by the CCD line sensor; and a variation amount determination unit which determines whether or not a variation amount calculated by the variation amount calculator exceeds a predetermined threshold.
