In the scan search for playing back necessary data among audio/video data from an optical disc 20 which is rotated by a spindle motor 1 using an optical pickup 2, a system control unit 17 reads title set management information from a title set management information storage unit 13, and obtains last position data, initial position data and the playback time of each program including the necessary data. The address amount of relative motion per one scan search operation in each program is decided on the basis of a value which is obtained by subtracting the initial position data of the program from the last position data, and dividing the subtraction result by the playback time of the program. These processes are applied similarly to each program.
