    Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques to provide notification of the type and/or attributes of frame updates. A platform can notify a panel of further frame updates, whether the frame update is a full frame update or a partial frame update and attributes of the frame update. The platform can notify the panel of information about the frame update during a vertical blanking interval by asserting a command or signaling the panel using selected symbols during the vertical blanking interval.

    Abstract: Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device that includes a display and is configured to enable a low power display refresh during a semi-active workload. The electronic device can include a display engine and a display panel and a frame is used by the display panel to generate an image on a display backplane. The display panel includes the display backplane, a plurality of row drivers, a plurality of column drivers, and a timing controller. The timing controller can receive a partial update to a frame being displayed as an image on the display backplane and update the image displayed on the display backplane by activating row drivers and a subset of the plurality of available column drivers, wherein the subset is based on the update.

In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise at least one memory and logic, at least a portion of which is implemented in circuitry coupled to the memory, the logic to identify a use state of a display segment of a flexible display, determine whether to alter a power state of the display segment based on the use state of the display segment, and in response to a determination to alter the power state of the display segment, send a power control command to cause the display segment to initiate a power state transition.     Abstract: An apparatus may include a memory and graphics logic operative to render a set of one or more data frames for storage in the memory using a received set of data of a digital medium, and output one or more control signals at a first interval. The apparatus may also include a display engine operative to receive the one or more control signals from the graphics logic, retrieve the set of one or more data frames from the memory, and send the one or more data frames to a display device for visual presentation. The one or more data frames may be sent periodically in succession at a second interval corresponding to a native frame rate of the digital medium.
