Abstract: A system and method of coordinated motion among heterogeneous devices includes a medical device with one or more movable elements and one or more processors. Any of the processors uses a shared interface to access services. The medical device requests a movement token from a token service through the shared interface, receive the movement token from the token service, exchange configuration data, kinematic data, or planned motion data through the shared interface, plan a first motion for a first movable element of the movable elements based on the movement token and the configuration data, the kinematic data, or the planned motion data, and execute the first motion. In some embodiments, the movement token is selected from a group consisting of an exclusive-motion token, a master follow-me token, a slave follow-me token, a master collision-avoidance token, a slave collision-avoidance token, and a passive collision-avoidance token.

Abstract: A bleeding detection unit in a surgical system processes information in an acquired scene before that scene is presented on a display unit in the operating room. For example, the bleeding detection unit analyzes the pixel data in the acquired scene and determines whether there are one or more initial sites of blood in the scene. Upon detection of an initial site of blood, the region is identified by an initial site icon in the scene displayed on the display unit. In one aspect, the processing is done in real-time which means that there is no substantial delay in presenting the acquired scene to the surgeon.

Abstract: Selective reflection of light by ureters and by tissue around the ureters is used to safely and efficiently image the ureters. In one aspect, a plurality of surgical site scenes is captured. Each of the plurality of surgical site scenes is captured from reflected light having a different light spectrum. The plurality of captured surgical site scenes is analyzed to identify ureter tissue in the captured surgical site scenes. A surgical site scene is displayed on a display device. The displayed surgical site scene has ureter tissue artificially highlighted.

The control unit includes one or more processors and an interface coupling the control unit to the medical device. Abstract: A system for distributed heat flux sensing of body tissue includes a distributed sensor, a thermal energy source, and one or more processors. The distributed sensor provides a plurality of temperature measurements corresponding to a plurality of points in a measurement range. The thermal energy source applies thermal energy to the body tissue along the measurement range. The one or more processors are configured to receive the plurality of temperature measurements from the distributed sensor, determine an amount of thermal energy applied by the thermal energy source at each of the plurality of points, and determine heat flux at each of the plurality of points based on the plurality of temperature measurements and the amount of thermal energy applied by the thermal energy source. The plurality of temperature measurements correspond to the plurality of points.
