Abstract: A mediated-reality system for surgical applications incorporates pre-operative images and real-time captured images of a surgical site into a visualization presented on a head-mounted display worn by a surgeon during a surgical procedure. The mediated-reality system tracks the surgeon's head position and generates real-time images of the surgical site from a virtual camera perspective corresponding to the surgeon's head position to mimic the natural viewpoint of the surgeon. The mediated-reality system furthermore aligns the pre-operative images with the real-time images from the virtual camera perspective and presents a mediated-reality visualization of the surgical site with the aligned pre-operative three-dimensional images or a selected portion thereof overlaid on the real-time images representing the virtual camera perspective.

Abstract: A computer-assisted surgical system is configured to activate a first mode of operation in which movement of a user control mechanism is translated to movement of a surgical instrument coupled to a manipulator arm; receive, during the first mode of operation, a first user input by way of a user input mechanism associated with the user control mechanism; activate, based on the first user input, a second mode of operation in which the user control mechanism is repositionable without causing the surgical instrument to move; receive, during the first mode of operation, a second user input by way of the user input mechanism, wherein the second user input is different from the first user input; and activate, based on the second user input, a function associated with a third mode of operation different from the first and second modes of operation.

Abstract: A visualization catheter includes an elongate shaft, a cap portion, and an offset balloon coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The elongate shaft includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a central axis defined therebetween. The cap portion is coupled to the distal end of the shaft. The cap portion also includes a visualization element and defines an aperture. The offset balloon is coupled to the distal end of the shaft and encapsulates the cap portion. The offset balloon defines a center point offset relative to the central axis of the shaft.

Abstract: A digital loupe system is provided which can include a number of features. In one embodiment, the digital loupe system can include a stereo camera pair and a distance sensor. The system can further include a processor configured to perform a transformation to image signals from the stereo camera pair based on a distance measurement from the distance sensor and from camera calibration information. In some examples, the system can use the depth information and the calibration information to correct for parallax between the cameras to provide a multi-channel image. Ergonomic head mounting systems are also provided. In some implementations, the head mounting systems can be configurable to support the weight of a digital loupe system, including placing one or two oculars in a line of sight with an eye of a user, while improving overall ergonomics, including peripheral vision, comfort, stability, and adjustability. Methods of use are also provided.

Abstract: A computing system may generate a composite video stream from multiple input feeds. The computing system may obtain a surgical video stream and overlay content associated with a surgical procedure. The computing system may determine the overlay region location for overlaying the overlay content by analyzing the content of surgical video stream. For example, based on the content of a frame of the surgical video stream, the computing system may determine an overlay region location in the frame for overlaying the overlay content; based on the content of a subsequent frame of the surgical video stream, the computing system may determine another overlay region location in the subsequent frame for overlaying the overlay content. The composite video stream may be generated based on the overlay region locations determined for different frames of the surgical video stream.

Abstract: A dental observation device by which, without displaying, in an overlapping manner, a visible light image of an image-capturing site in an oral cavity captured by a 3-D camera and 3-D image information on the image-capturing site in the oral cavity acquired in advance, an invisible portion in the visible light image is easily recognized.
An observation system includes a visible light 3-D camera; a relative position calculator; a 3-D information storage storing 3-D image information acquired in advance; an image display displaying, side by side, a 2-D captured image captured by the visible light 3-D camera and 2-D converted image based on the 3-D image information corresponding to the surgical operation target site; and a display direction adjuster displaying, in the image display, the 2-D converted image in a predetermined direction on the basis of the image-capturing direction detected by the relative position calculator.-

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein to generate a 3D surface scan of a surface profile of a patient's anatomy. The 3D surface scan may be generated by reflections of structured light off the surface profile of the anatomy. The 3D surface scan may be used during intra-operative surgical navigation by a localization system. Optionally, a pre-operative medical image may also be registered to the localization system or used to enhance the 3D surface scan.
