Abstract:
A first expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body and a resilient flow control positioned in the valve body. The valve body has a valve seat including a radially-inner valve seat portion, a radially-outer valve seat portion and a bypass-flow-channel exit located between the two seat portions. The flow control has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a through passage. The bottom surface is spaced apart from the radially-inner valve seat portion under a lower fluid pressure against the top surface exposing the bypass-flow-channel exit. The bottom surface seats against the radially-inner valve seat portion under a higher fluid pressure blocking the bypass-flow-channel exit. A second expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body having a bypass-flow-channel exit and includes a resilient flow control which has a substantially-constant-diameter outer cylindrical surface and which has a bottom surface devoid of any protrusion.

Abstract:
A modular surgical patient positioner unit is formed by attaching a plastic linear extension board to a peg board by means of a perforated metal bridging plate. An elongated metal support bar is fastened along one side of the linear extension board for added strength and functionality.
Abstract:
A system for controlling an electric motor comprises, in one embodiment, an encoder; a central processor in communication with said encoder; a module processor in communication with said central processor; feedback circuitry in communication with said module processor, wherein said encoder is an electronic device that provides rotor and stator positional information to said central processor, and further comprising a user interface in communication with said central processor, wherein said user interface enables a user to select preferred operational parameters for an electric motor. Another embodiment comprises a method for controlling an electric motor, comprising: determining rotor position based on data received from an encoder; determining how to energize stator coils; directing a power module to provide appropriate current to appropriate coils; and monitoring rotor response, wherein determining how to energize stator coils comprises consulting a look-up table.
Abstract:
A method for photocopying an original color document reduces the amount of color in the resulting photocopy. This is accomplished by scanning bands of the original document to create image bands, detecting a background color in one or more margins of the document that are within the scanned image bands, determining a stretch factor based on the color in the margins, and then scaling pixel values of the pixels by the stretch factor. The stretch factor may be established in one space, e.g., luminance space, and the scaling may be performed in another space, e.g., RGB, though this is not an absolute requirement. A device capable of performing the foregoing thereby reduces the amount of color ink or color toner consumed when the color background of an original document is not needed in the photocopy.
Abstract:
A dispenser valve assembly for controlling the discharge of fluid contents from a container, the container having a lid with an opening in the lid; the valve assembly comprising a valve seat and a flexible sheet, the flexible sheet having an aperture therein, the flexible sheet having an inner surface facing the valve seat and an outer surface facing the container lid, the valve seat including: (a) a floor, (b) at least one passageway through the floor for admitting the fluid contents from the container, (c) a projection member having a seating surface that cooperates with the aperture in the sheet to provide a first valve, wherein the seating surface seals the aperture and thereby closes the first valve when the contents of the container is not under pressure, and (d) at least one retainer for holding a peripheral portion of the flexible sheet in contact with the lid such that a peripheral portion of the sheet is retained in contact with the lid and another peripheral portion of the sheet is not retained in contact with the lid to provide a second valve and the portion of the sheet not retained in contact with the lid, contacts the lid and closes the second valve when the contents of the container is under pressure; wherein by applying pressure to the inner surface of the sheet, the sheet is displaced from the seating surface and the contents of the container can be dispensed through the aperture in the flexible sheet, and when the pressure on the inner surface of the sheet is less than the pressure on the outer surface, the container is vented by air that passes through the opening in the lid, between the lid and the peripheral portions of the sheet not retained in contact with the lid, and into the container through the at least one passageway in the floor of the valve seat.
Abstract:
A method for processing data for use with a video display includes compressing image data of one or more color planes on a line-by-line basis using lossy compression, wherein at least one lossy compression scheme of a plurality of lossy compression schemes is designated for each line of the plurality of lines to form compressed image data on the line-by-line basis.
Abstract:
A method of transforming a n-bit data packet to a m-bit data packet with a lookup table. The lookup table includes at least one entry data packet and at least one respective delta value associated with each entry data packet. The method includes the acts of receiving an input data packet having n-bits, indexing the lookup table with at least a portion of the input data packet to obtain one of the at least one entry data packet, and decompressing the obtained entry data packet with the at least one respective delta value associated with the obtained entry data packet, thereby resulting in an output data packet having m-bits. The decompressing act includes using a portion of the input data packet to determine the number of delta values called for decompressing the obtained entry data packet. The method can be used in, for example, an image processor.
Abstract:
Apparatus for detecting vibration of an object adapted to rotate includes one or more vibration processors selected from: a direction-change processor adapted to detect changes in a direction of rotation of the object, a direction-agreement processor adapted to identify a direction of rotation of the object in at least two channels and identify an agreement or disagreement in direction of rotation identified by the at least two channels, a phase-overlap processor adapted to identify overlapping signal regions in signals associated with the rotation of the object, and a running mode processor adapted to identify an unresponsive output signal from at least one of the at least two channels. A method for detecting the vibration of the object includes generating at least one of a direction-change output signal with the direction-change processor, a direction-agreement output signal with the direction-agreement processor, a phase-overlap output signal with the phase-overlap processor, and a running-mode-vibration output signal with the running-mode processor, each indicative of the vibration the object.
Abstract:
Defects are automatically detected in an image scanning device by performing a defect calibration scan of an image scanning area and detecting at least one defect in at least one section of the image scanning area. A tag is generated for the section of the image scanning area in which the defect is detected. The defect is compensated for in the scanned image based on information contained within the tag.
