Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention describe wastewater treatment process basins included in containers consistent with an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) specification for intermodal containers. Said basin may further include a corrosion resistant liner coupled to interior portions of each of the base and side walls of the basin and an inlet/outlet to receive/output wastewater treatment process material. It is to be understood that embodiments of the invention may function as various components and sub-components of a wastewater treatment processing plant including, but not limited to, equalization tanks, anoxic basins, aeration basins, anaerobic basins, emergency overflow basins, aerobic digester basins, membrane bioreactor (MBR) basins and waste activated sludge storage. Embodiments of the invention may also be used in military emergency wastewater management, water storage, satellite treatment facilities, FEMA emergency water and wastewater management as well as other reusable water management applications.
Abstract:
Apparatus, device, and methods for fragmenting high molecular weight molecular ions, such as peptides or proteins, by treating the ions with predetermined wavelengths of light are described. Vacuum ultraviolet radiation as a source of predetermined wavelengths of laser light is described in one embodiment. A device (50) is described having a sample, such as a peptide, protein, protein digest, and the like enters through inlet (55) and is irradiated with a first source of light (60), which illustratively may be a laser light. The first source of laser light is illustratively at a wavelength and energy sufficient to convert molecules in the sample into molecular or precursor ions.
Abstract:
A cover assembly for covering at least a part of an electrical switch having a rocker switch actuator, including a face plate defining an opening for permitting at least a part of a rocker switch actuator to extend through the face plate; and a rocker switch member, including a recessed portion, in operative engagement with the face plate. The face plate may have a recessed portion for receiving and operatively engaging a surface of the rocker switch actuator which extends through the face plate. Movement of the rocker switch member from a first position to a second position causes a corresponding movement of the rocker switch actuator when the rocker switch actuator is received and engaged in the recessed portion.
Abstract:
A control system (12) for a power supply (14), such as a high voltage power supply, includes a control circuit (16) and a feedback circuit (18, 28, 30). The feedback circuit (18, 28, 30) is configured to produce a feedback signal indicative of the voltage of the power supply output. The control circuit (16) is configured to control the power supply (14) based on the feedback signal and a predetermined voltage value to maintain the output of the power supply (14) at about the predetermined voltage value. A portion of the feedback circuit (18, 28, 30) may be included in an isolation shield (88) to improve the accuracy of the feedback signal.
Abstract:
A MALDI mass spectrometer directs a laser shot onto a MALDI sample to generate a sample spectrum which is analyzed to determine if the sample spectrum meets a predetermined criteria. If so, subsequent laser shots are directed to predetermined locations on the MALDI sample. In essence, if the analysis of a previous laser shot indicates that a “sweet spot” of the MALDI sample has be located, subsequent laser shots may be directed to areas proximate to the previous shot thereby allowing the sweet spot to be thoroughly sampled. A method of operating a MALDI mass spectrometer is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of estimating parameters of a mobile radio channel which are used for providing the equalization and synchronization of the radio channel. The channel is modelled as a discrete number of independent Rayleigh-faded propagation paths. First, the relative delay of each path is estimated, using maximum likelihood methods. Using this information, the associated time-varying path weights are then determined using a least-squares fit. This is sufficient information to estimate the impulse response of the channel. The actual equalizer weights are then obtained by inverting the estimated channel impulse response.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for simultaneously generating spatial profiles of moisture, thickness, and basis weight across a moving web of paper in a paper making machine. The apparatus includes a plurality of means for generating first and second beams of coherent microwave radiation and for generating signals proportional to the intensity of radiation applied to, reflected from, and transmitted through the web. The incident, reflectance, and transmittance signals for the two frequencies are used to solve simultaneous equations to generate moisture, thickness, and basis weight values at various positions across the web.
