The present invention comprises a printing machine of the type having a toner image interposed between a flexible member and a sheet. Specifically, the printer has a device for transferring the toner image from the flexible member to the sheet, an apparatus separating the sheet from the flexible member, and a device, located intermediate the transferring means and the separating means, for providing a relative motion between the sheet and flexible member so as to reduce electrostatic forces between the toner and flexible member for improving transfer efficiency. Specifically, the device for providing relative motion incorporates a device for creating a substantially non-tensioned condition in the flexible member and sheet. More particularly, the invention has apparatus for forming a non-tensioned buckle in the portion of the flexible member located intermediate the transferring means and the separating means so as to form the non-tensioned condition in the buckle portion of the flexible member and a tensioned condition in the remainder of the flexible member. More specifically, the non-tensioned buckle comprises a gripping device to hold the flexible member on the outside edges so as to maintain the non-tensioned buckle thus improving transfer efficiency.

The base layer can include carbon and the thermoplastic film forming polymer layer can include electrical property regulating materials. This intermediate transfer member shows improved mechanical as well as electrical properties. It can be employed in an electrophotographic imaging device having at least one photoreceptor and can print an image on a suitable substrate such as paper with improved toner image formation.

A seamless intermediate transfer member has a reinforcing member in an endless configuration, a filler material such as a polymer and electrical property regulating material to regulate the electrical properties such as surface and bulk resistivity, dielectric constant and charge dissipation. The seamless intermediate transfer member also has good mechanical properties. The reinforcing member can be prepared by any suitable method such as by weaving. Filler material and electrical regulating material can be applied on, around or embedded into the reinforcing member. The member can be employed in an electrostatographic imaging system with more than one toner imaging station. The member can pick up a separate image from each individual imaging station and transfer the combined image to a suitable substrate. The seamless intermediate transfer member is capable of dissipating charge between toner imaging stations, achieving good transfer efficiencies and has a non-stretch characteristic to attain good registration of a toner image.
