Abstract:
A process for epoxidizing unsaturated polymers comprising reacting an unsaturated polymer with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of (a) tungstic acid or its metal salts, (b) phosphoric acid or its metal salts, and (c) at least one phase transfer catalyst.
Abstract:
Polyester based polycarbonate (meth)acrylates prepared by the reaction of a alkylene or arylene diol polycarbonate with an anhydride or its dicarboxylic acid to form a carboxyl terminated diester, reacting the diester with a diglycidyl ether and an acrylic or methacrylic acid to form an acrylate terminate polymer which is useful for radiation cured coatings which have superior adhesion and reverse impact strength when applied to plastic substrates.
Abstract:
Polymer having repeating polycarbonate moieties of the formula (I) (Acr)y(A)(Q)(PC)[(Q)(PC)]x(Q)(A)(Acr)y (I) wherein (Acr)y(A) is the residue of hydroxyalkyl acrylate or hydroxyalkyl methacrylate having an alkyl moiety, A, and where said alkyl, A, has 2 to 5 carbon atoms and wherein Acr is an acrylate or methacrylate moiety; Q is the residue of one or more organic polyisocyantes which are connected with A via a urethane linkage; PC is the residue of an alkylene diol polycarbonate of the formula (II) HO(ROCOO)nROH (II) R is one or more (C2 to C10) alkylene or one or more (C6 to C12) aromatic group; y is an integer from 1 to 5; x is from 1 to 20; PC and Q are connected via a urethane group. The acrylate terminate polymers are useful for radiation cured coatings which have superior adhesion and reverse impact strength, especially when applied to plastic substrates.
Abstract:
Compounds of the formula wherein R1=H, CH3 R2=H, CH3, CH2CH3, or CH2CH2CH3 n=1-10 X=halogen, (C1-C6) alkyl, (C1-C6) alkoxy, or aromatic radical are shown to be useful as coupling agents or adhesion promotors in free radically curable compositions such as UV curable and peroxide curable (meth)acrylate based coating compositions. The associated methods, curable compositions, coatings, adhesives and coated articles are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A urethane (meth)acrylate metal salt obtained by reacting (A) one or more polyisocyanates, (B) one or more hydroxy functional (meth)acrylates, and (C) one or more metal salt polyols which are the reaction product of a metal oxide and a half ester containing a hydroxy group and a carboxylic acid group. Processes of preparing such salts and polymers prepared from such salts are also disclosed. The polymers are useful for coating and adhesive compositions prepared by radiation or peroxide curing processes.
Abstract:
Composition suitable for free radical, radiation curable coating comprising at least one polyester having unsaturated backbone and at least one compound having two to six propenyl ether groups, and optionally, a free radical photoinitiator. The equivalent ratio of propenyl ether groups to maleimide, maleate and/or fumarate groups in the polyester is preferably about 5:1 to about 1:5.The process for curing the composition includes exposing it to ionizing radiation and/or ultraviolet light. The resultant cured coatings and coated articles are similar in performance to their vinyl ether analogues, but the propenyl ethers are easier to prepare than the vinyl ether analogues.
Abstract:
The invention provides dental cement compositions and methods of using them for binding hard tooth material, metal and ceramic. The cement compositions include shelf stable complexes of ethylenically unsaturated monomers reacted with cations. The cements have superior adhesion to tooth without separately acid etching dentin or enamel. Compositions of are useful as dental luting cements, liners, pit and fissure seal bases and restoratives
