    Abstract: A large round baler, designed as a non-stop baler, includes a mobile chassis supporting a lower baling chamber section, defined by a floor conveyor arrangement, and an upper baling chamber section. The upper baling chamber section, together with opposite side walls, is mounted for fore-and-aft movement relative to the lower baling chamber section between a rear location, wherein it cooperates with the floor conveyor arrangement to define a rear baling chamber, and a front location wherein it cooperates with the floor conveyor arrangement to define a front baling chamber. The upper chamber section includes front and rear wall portions which are mounted for being raised once a bale is formed in the rear baling chamber so that the upper section may be moved to its forward location. A wrapping device is provided which is operable once the upper chamber section is moved to its front location, for wrapping the bale with overlapping wraps of sheeting made from plastic or the like so as to provide an air tight casing for the crop material so as to make silage.

    Abstract: The binder twine arm arrangement includes two arms having twine dispensing ends. The arms initially remain in a rest position wherein their dispensing ends are near a first end face of a bale to be bound. The arms are moved to a start position wherein the dispensing ends are located centrally between the first end face and a second end face of the bale. The arms are then actuated or controlled such that they first spread apart and then return together about a hinge joint interconnecting the two arms. Upon returning to the start position the arms are returned to the rest position. For this purpose, an actuator is provided between the two arms which becomes active to effect relative motion between the arms as soon as the arms have reached the start position.

    Abstract: A baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay has a variable volume bailing chamber defined by moving belts with a crop inlet on the underside of the machine. When a bale has been completed it is wrapped with net stored in a holder on the back of the baler. The net is advanced by feed rolls through a cutting mechanism below the holder, and is then guided by a plate extending along the underside of a run of the belts to the baling chamber. The plate is in such close proximity to the run that the net is gripped between the plate and belts and is advanced by the moving belts. Finally, the net is cut by the cutting mechanism, the wrapping of net completed, and the bale discharged rearwardly through a gate onto the ground.

    Abstract: A baling machine for forming large cylindrical bales of hay has a variable volume baling chamber defined by moving belts with a crop inlet on the underside of the machine. When a bale has been completed it is wrapped with surface wrapping material stored in a holder on the back of the baler. The wrapping material is advanced by feed rolls through a cutting mechanism below the holder, and is thus guided by a plate extending along the underside of a run of the belts to the baling chamber. In order to avoid wasting wrap, a cutter is triggered by a peg carried by a metering wheel movable between an adjustable "home" position against an abutment or stop to a trigger position in which it engages and lifts a release lever to release the cutter, and this distance is a measure of the length of wrap material required for the completed bale. In respective embodiments, the metering wheel is in the form of a friction wheel, a worm wheel and a ratchet wheel with all wheels being selectively driven by one of the feed rolls.

    Abstract: This cylindrical bale-forming press comprises sets of belts, bands or the like which define a chamber for forming a bale by rolling up crop products. At least one stationary roller drives the belts and is itself driven from a main drive shaft. Some of the guide rollers are movable and are subjected to a biasing action by hydraulic cylinders so as to maintain the belts under tension. According to the invention, a torque sensor is provided on the main drive shaft of the press and operates to provide an electrical output signal which is operatively connected to electrically responsive valve means in the hydraulic circuitry for controlling the hydraulic cylinders so as to reduce or eliminate the tension in the belts when an excessive resisting torque on the main driving shaft is sensed. In one embodiment wherein the hydraulic cylinders are associated with an expansion valve, the torque sensor is operatively connected to the expansion valve so as to lower the threshold of response of the valve in response to an excessive torque being sensed. According to a variant, an electrically responsive shunt valve which is movable to a position wherein it interconnects the opposite ends of the hydraulic cylinders may be connected in parallel with the hydraulic cylinders for actuation in response to the output signal of the torque sensor.

    Abstract: A cylindrical baler is comprised of an adjustable bale-forming chamber for forming spirally wound, cylindrical bales. A completed bale is discharged on the ground through a rear gate. The chamber is comprised of a plurality of longitudinally extending, side-by-side belts supported on a plurality of transverse rollers. The chamber is adjusted by a pair of belt tension rollers engaged with the bale chamber belts and supported between a pair of pivotally mounted belt tension arms which are displaceable as the diameter of a bale in the chamber increases during formation. A hydraulic circuit controls the tension applied to the chamber by the belt tension arms and rollers and also operates the bale discharge gate. A pair of hydraulic jacks are, respectively, mounted on each side of the baler and connected between the bale discharge gate and the belt tension arms. To properly tension the belts, a nonreturn valve isolates the hydraulic jacks from the tractor's hydraulic supply and the jack chambers are connected in closed circuit through an adjustable pressure valve to apply a resistance to fluid flow from one chamber of each jack to the other. The nonreturn valve is pilot controlled and is opened to permit return fluid flow to the tractor supply when the jacks are actuated to open the rear gate. Thus, each jack performs a double function of braking the movement of belt tension arms and rollers and operating the bale discharge gate, thereby, providing a simple, low cost, hydraulic circuit for belt tensioning and gate operation.
