    摘要: Methods and devices are provided for rotating an end effector on a long, flexible medical device. The methods and devices utilize an actuator mechanism that is effective to rotate an end effector on the distal end of an elongate flexible shaft. The actuator mechanism is movable between a freely rotatable position and a rotationally resistant position. When the actuator mechanism is in a freely rotatable position, the actuator mechanism can be rotated to impart torque to the end effector, and thus at least a distal portion of the elongate shaft, to cause the end effector to rotate. In order to prevent the actuator mechanism from “freewheeling,” wherein the actuator mechanism freely rotates in an opposite direction upon release rather than the end effector rotating in the desired direction, the actuator mechanism can be moved to the rotationally resistant position.

    摘要: A medical device for use on a bodily organ includes a concave support element that is removably attachable to the surface of the bodily organ, thereby defining an enclosed space adjacent to the bodily organ. The enclosed space is fluidly connected to a fluid management system for circulating a fluid inside of the enclosed space. The medical device also has an energy transfer element mounted to the concave support element and electrically connected to a control unit. In some embodiments, the energy transfer element transmits intense ultrasound energy in a frequency range of 1–30 megahertz, and the fluid acoustically couples the energy transfer element to the bodily organ, and the fluid also cools the energy transfer element.

    摘要: A surgical retraction and positioning device comprises a stable platform and a flexible tape attached thereto for easier retraction and manipulation of a heart during cardiac surgery. The stable platform has an elongate body having a curved handle extending into an organ contacting base. The base is formed at the distal end of the handle and is at least partially concave to conform to the contours of the outer surface of the heart. A portion of a flexible element, such as umbilical tape, is secured to the base, leaving at least one free end to enable the surgeon to wrap, or secure, the heart against the organ contacting base.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a device for stabilizing and/or manipulating moving tissue, such as a beating heart, so as to facilitate surgical procedures on such tissues. The device includes a tube having a proximal end, a distal end and a lumen extending therebetween. The tube is operatively connected to a suction source so as to draw air through the tube from the distal end to the proximal end. The device further includes at least one foot operatively connected to the distal end of the tube. The foot extends laterally from the tube. In a preferred embodiment the device includes a pair of feet which are spaced apart laterally from each other. Each foot has a proximal surface, and a distal surface for making contact with the tissue. Each foot is attached to the tube by a ball and socket connector. The ball and socket connector is operatively connected to an actuator which can release and re-engage the ball from the socket. The actuator is proximal to the ball and socket, and preferably is adjacent the distal end of the tube.
