Optimising the operation of a hydraulically powered rotor and stator driven drill as it drills a wellbore into the earth is described. Drilling optimization is provided measuring a first set of rotor and stator operating parameters including the speed of rotation of the rotor and rotor torque for a first period of time, generating a first set of relationships from the first set of operating parameters to enable the rotor speed and rotor torque to be predicted over a range of operating parameter values, determining from the relationships a first more optimal mode of operation, and changing at least one operating parameter to move the operation of the rotor and stator towards the more optimal mode of operation.

A piston cooling nozzle including a nylon body having a hub and a pair of integral legs extending from the hub and a tube for delivering coolant to a piston. The pair of legs are formed relative to the hub and the tube to ensure that when the body is mounted to an engine block, the legs engage a cylinder liner to thereby position the tube between a skirt of the piston and a connecting rod coupled to the piston.

A machine for automatically orienting railroad tie plates includes a sensing region having at least one optical sensor adapted to sense a physical feature of a tie plate. An electronic controller is connected to the optical sensor and is disposed to receive a sensor signal indicative of the physical feature of the tie plate when the tie plate is in the sensing region. The electronic controller further determines an orientation of the tie plate based on the sensor signal, compares it to one or more predetermined or possible orientations, and provides a command to at least one actuator adapted to perform at least one tie plate orientation operation to change the orientation of the tie plate based on the comparison of the orientation of the plate with the predetermined orientation.

In an embodiment, an electronic system includes a data input device. The data input device includes a data input surface which is touch-sensitive. In addition, the data input device includes a removable template positioned over the data input surface. The removable template divides the data input surface into a first variable template input area and a second variable template input area. In an embodiment, the first input area comprises a handwriting recognition input area for detecting and facilitating recognition of one or more first gestures while the second variable template input area is configured to detect and facilitate recognition of one or more second gestures. The first and second variable template input areas can be implemented as any type of template. In another embodiment, a removable data input device includes a data input surface which is touch-sensitive. An electronic system includes the removable data input device. The data input surface includes a first variable template input area comprising a handwriting recognition input area for detecting and facilitating recognition of one or more first gestures and a second variable template input area for detecting and facilitating recognition of one or more second gestures. In this embodiment, the user changes the removable data input device in order to operate and control any one of a plurality of devices which are integrated into the electronic system or in order to change the data input methods available to the user.

One embodiment in accordance with the present invention includes using a portable computing device to remotely control devices and/or systems wirelessly. Specifically, a software timer application operating on the portable computing device enables its user to predefine the time, date, and the operation(s) that one or more properly enabled devices and/or systems perform in the future. That is, the timer software operating on the portable computing device is able at some predefined time to wirelessly trigger an action or a sequence of actions from devices and/or systems. For example, a user of the portable computing device is able to utilize the timer software to program a predefined date and time that the portable computing device will turn on a favorite radio, program and turn up the thermostat. The wireless communication of the portable computing device may occur using a radio frequency (RF) technology like Bluetooth, IEEE 802.1 1, or HomeRF.

Stretch wrap films are used to hold goods to pallets during storage and shipping. Multilayer stretch wrap films are provided herein with at least one outer layer of polypropylene and other layers of blends of polyethylenes. In preferred embodiments, stretch wrap films comprise a cling layer comprising a heterogeneously branched ultra low density polyethylene, a non-cling layer, and at least one core layer comprising linear low density polyethylene and low density polyethylene. Preferred embodiments of films of the present technology optimize physical properties enabling the film to have sufficient cling while creating a tolerable noise level upon unwinding. The optimized properties can include good clarity, high load containment, high puncture resistance, high stretch and good tear resistance.
