    摘要: Changing relative positions of conductor pairs along a telecommunications cable core by passing the pairs, as they approach a core unit forming means, through guides which are held in relative positions in a guide channel. The channel extends in a plurality of directions and has inner and outer channel portions which are preferably arcuate and lie upon arcs of circles. The guides are moved along the channel and from channel portion to channel portion, movement being alternately in each direction. This movement changes the positional relationship of guides in one channel portion to those in the other.

Electromotive force or current induced in a sensing conductor placed in the field is affected by the flux strength of the field. Sensing any change in this induced property indicates a change in the net magnetic bipolar orientation.

    摘要: Extrusion apparatus and a method of extruding in which an extrusion screw terminates close to a breaker plate so that an annular passage surrounding the screw extends to the breaker plate. The breaker plate has flow apertures arranged around an edge region of the plate for direct communication with the annular passage. The flow passage arrangement decreases in cross-sectional area in a downstream direction whereby plastics materials do not become static in certain regions. Plastics degradation, particularly for PVC, is therefore avoided.

    摘要: In a method and apparatus for drying filamentary material, a duct is provided for enclosing a portion of a passline. The duct comprises two parts relatively disposed laterally of the passline. These parts are relatively movable away from one another laterally of the passline to provide a duct open position and towards one another to provide a duct closed postion. First and second guide wheels are provided for guiding the filamentary material along the passline through the duct. The guide wheels are relatively movable along the passline between the duct parts in the duct open position between a first pair of relatively close positions and a second pair of positions at opposite ends of the duct. With the duct in the duct open position and the guide wheels in the first pair of positions, filamentary material is fed over the guide wheels. The guide wheels are moved relatively along the passline from the first pair of positions to the second pair of positions to draw the filamentary material along the passline between the duct parts. The duct parts are moved into the duct closed position to enclose the filamentary material extending between the guide wheels. A drying gas is passed into the duct while advancing the filamentary material along the passline and guiding it through the duct. The method and apparatus are useful for drying solvent-based colorants on polymer-insulated wire.

    摘要: For powder filling of cables, in a fluidized powder bed, it has been proposed to pass the cable core through the bed in a substantially closed condition. There is a limit to the number of conductors a core can have for effective filling. In the present invention the cable core is opened up into a number of core units by passing through an opening member. The opening member is freely ridable on the cable core and has a hole for each unit. The opener is held against a support member and an air bearing formed between the two members. Air is also usually fed to the holes in the opener member through which the core units pass to prevent flow of powder out from the bed. The opening member can be positioned in the fluidized bed or outside immediately prior to passage of the cable core through the bed. The units are each in a substantially closed condition in the bed and the units close to a single core also in the bed.

A forming die for performing the operation, has an arcuate orifice extension connected to the die orifice for guiding an overlapping edge of wrapping material. Apparatus is included which has at least one die. Where more than one die is used, the positional relationship of the dies is determined to prevent the frictional contact between material and article during wrapping.
