    Abstract: A handheld engine-driven cutter is provided with a disk blade and a four-stroke engine that drives the disk blade. By employing the four-stroke engine, exhaustion of unburned gas and fuel consumption can be reduced. The engine cutter is further provided with a filter through which air provided to the four-stroke engine passes, a carburetor that mixes fuel and the air that passed through the filter, and a casing that houses the filter and the carburetor. The filter and the carburetor are arranged to align on a straight line along a direction of flow of the air passing through the filter and the carburetor.

    Abstract: A lubrication system for a portable four-stroke engine includes an opening end of the breather passage is disposed at substantially a center of a valve-operating chamber, and the valve-operating chamber is formed by attaching a valve-operating chamber cover. An inner cover is attached to an inner surface of the valve-operating chamber cover so as to be provided along and in contact with the inner surface of the valve-operating chamber cover. A suction passage is formed as a gap between the circumferential edge of the top plate portion and the inner cover. Three or more suction tubes that are in communication with the suction passage are provided in the inner cover, each of the suction tubes having an opening end. At least one of the opening ends of the suction tubes is provided lower than the opening end of the breather passage in an attitude of the engine during use.

    Abstract: In an optical modulator, lights that have been branched by an input optical branching section are input via curved waveguides to a plurality of optical modulation sections arranged in parallel on the same substrate. In the optical modulation sections, optical branching sections of an MZ type optical waveguide are arranged shifted to an output side in the longitudinal direction (x direction) of the substrate, corresponding to an arrangement of input ends of signal electrodes. As a result, even if the input ends of the signal electrodes of the respective optical modulation sections are arranged side by side with a predetermined spacing on one side face of the substrate, input light can be applied to the respective optical modulation sections at low loss, without incurring an increase in the drive voltage.
