A toner for developing an electrostatic latent image, a process for producing the same and a process for forming an image using the same are provided. The toner is produced by a simple production process, with good reproducibility, particularly in particle size and particle size distribution. The toner is excellent in production stability, with a wide fixing region, and is also excellent in low temperature fixing property, production stability, storage stability of resin particles formed by the aggregation process, and charging property, particularly environmental stability and time-lapse stability. The toner for developing an electrostatic latent image contains a crystalline resin having a melting point as a binder resin, and at least one of an ester compound having an alkyl group having from 6 to 32 carbon atoms and a resin having a contact angle with water that is smaller than that of the crystalline resin.

A toner for developing an electrostatic latent image includes at least coloring particles containing a colorant and a binder resin. The volume average particle size of the coloring particle is 1.0 to 5.0 .mu.m. The toner is further characterized in that (1) the relationship between the quantity of the electric charge and the particle size is adjusted appropriately, (2) the particle size distribution is adjusted appropriately and/or (3) an external additive comprising at least an ultra microparticle and a super-ultra microparticle may be added, the rate of coating on the coloring particle being adjusted appropriately. A method for forming an image includes (1) a developing step in which a toner layer is formed on the surface of a developer support arranged opposed to a latent image support and an electrostatic latent image on the latent image support is developed with the toner layer to obtain a toner image and (2) a transfer step in which the toner image formed is transferred to a transfer material. The Rz of at least an image receiving region of the transfer material provided for the transfer step is preferably 10 .mu.m or less.

The present invention provides an image forming method for efficiently thermoelectrically transferring and fixing a toner image formed on an electrostatic latent image carrier without scattering of the toner. The image forming method comprises the steps of charging a surface of an electrostatic latent image carrier; exposing the charged surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier to a light beam using optical data corresponding to image data to form a latent image; developing the latent image formed on the surface of the electrostatic latent image carrier with a developer for electrophotography containing a toner for electrophotography to form a toner image; and thermoelectrically transferring the toner image formed on the surface of said electrostatic latent image carrier onto a surface of a recording medium and simultaneously fixing thereon. The toner for electrophotography is comprised of a crystalline polyester resin, the surface temperature of a fixing unit therein is higher by 10° C. or greater than the melting point of said crystalline polyester resin, and the glass transition temperature of the outermost surface layer of the electrostatic latent image carrier is higher by 10° C. or greater than a surface temperature of the fixing unit.
