摘要: Multi-slice magnetic resonance imaging of a region of interest of an imaging subject (16) is performed using a radio frequency coil (40) arranged to generate a B1 magnetic field in the region of interest. One or more processors (44, 82, 88, 110) determine a B1 field value for each slice that is representative of the B1 field over a selected area of the slice, accounting for subject effects on the BI field, and determine an adjusted per-slice radio frequency excitation for each slice that adjusts the B1 field value for the slice to a selected value. A magnetic resonance imaging system (10, 44, 46, 50, 52) acquires magnetic resonance imaging data for each slice using the adjusted per-slice radio frequency excitation for that slice. A reconstruction processor (58) reconstructs the acquired magnetic resonance imaging data into a reconstructed image representation.

Coil jumps (74)connect the primary and shield coils (16, 18). The coil jumps (74) define a non-planar current-sharing surface (64) extending between inner and outer contours (66, 68) that coincide with the inner and outer cylindrical surfaces (60, 62), respectively. The coil (16, 18, 74) defines a current path that passes across the current sharing surface (64) between the inner and outer contours (66, 68) a plurality of times. Optionally, some primary coil turns (70) are electrically interconnected to define an isolated primary sub coil (P2) that together with a second shield (S2, S2′, S2″) enables a discretely or continuously selectable field of view.

摘要: A localized shim coil (34) for use in a magnetic resonance imaging system includes a plurality of conductive elements (22a-d). The plurality of conductive elements (62a-d) are connected to a current source (64). The plurality of conductive elements (62a-d) are arranged adjacent to a localized region of a subject being imaged such that current flowing through the conductive elements generates a localized magnetic field. A plurality of series connected choke and resister pairs (66a-d) and (68a-d), respectively, are connected to the plurality of conductive elements (62a-d). The chokes (66a-d) present high impedance to currents having frequencies substantially the same as a resonant frequency of the magnetic resonance imaging system. The resisters (68a-d) balance the current flowing through each conductive element (62a-d). The localized magnetic field is generated such that it is substantially equal and opposite to localized non-uniformities generated in the magnetic resonance system's main magnetic field by the subject's geometric shape and magnetic susceptibility in the localized region being imaged.

摘要: A superconducting magnetic imaging apparatus includes a vacuum vessel (16) having a central helium reservoir (20) in which superconducting magnetic coil windings (12) are maintained at a superconducting temperature. The vacuum vessel defines an internal bore (22) within which a self-shielded gradient coil assembly (26) and an RF coil (30) are received. The self-shielded coil assembly includes a single former (50) which defines an imaging region (14) within which an imaged portion of a subject is received. Primary x, y, and z-gradient coils (72-76) are positioned over an RF ground screen (70) that is bonded to the former (50). A number of comb-like spacers (84) extend from the former to supporting shield x, y, and z-gradient coils (110-114). The comb-like spacers define passages between the primary and secondary gradient coils which receive inner and outer cooling tubes (90, 92) and shim tray molds (108). The fully assembled gradient coil assembly is potted to form a unitary structure in a single potting step. The shim tray molds are subsequently removed to define channels or pockets suitable for receiving shim trays (118).

摘要: A magnetic resonance imaging apparatus has a main magnet (20) having opposite first and second poles (22, 24) arranged facing one another to define a subject receiving region (14) therebetween. The main magnet (20) generates a main magnetic field (12) within the subject receiving region (14). The main magnetic field (12) has non-uniformities and radial components at the periphery of the subject receiving region (14). A radio frequency coil (74) is disposed about the subject receiving region (14) to transmit radio frequency signals into the subject receiving region (14) and a receiver receives radio frequency signals therefrom. A shielded thrust balanced bi-planar gradient coil assembly (50) is included. The shielded thrust balanced bi-planar gradient coil assembly (50) has at least one pair of windings for generating substantially linear magnetic gradients across the subject receiving region (14). Each pair of windings includes a first set of windings (52) and a second set of windings (54), and each set of windings includes at least a primary winding (56) and a secondary winding (58). The first and second set of windings (52, 54) are positioned on opposite sides of the subject receiving region (14) near the first and second pole pieces (22, 24). The secondary windings (58) are positioned between their respective primary windings (56) and their associated pole pieces (22, 24). The first and second set of windings (52, 54) are arranged such that the net thrust forces acting thereon generated by interaction between the main magnetic field (12) and electrical current pulses through the windings are substantially zero.

摘要: A magnetic resonance imaging machine includes a toroidal vacuum dewer (24) which contains a superconducting magnet (10). A radio frequency coil (32) is mounted within a cylindrical bore (26) of the vacuum dewer. A cylindrical, dielectric former (46) supports an RF shield (34), a z-gradient coil (50), an x-gradient coil (52), and a y-gradient coil (54). The x and y-gradient coils are each composed of four like spiral coil constructions. A metallic layer is cut with cut lines (64) to define a generally spiral coil winding pattern. In a high current density region (68) in which the coil windings are narrower than a preselected width, the cut lines (76) are thinner. In lower current density regions (70), the cut lines (78) are thicker. In lower current density regions, two cut lines are defined between adjacent coil windings such that the coil windings are limited to a maximum width. Conductive islands (80) defined in the lower current density areas which are large enough to support detrimental eddy currents are preferably removed or at least modified such that their ability to support detrimental eddy currents is curtailed.

摘要: An examination region (12) is defined by an elliptically crossed-section cylinder (20) of a non-conductive, non-magnetic material. The x, y, and z-gradient coils (24, 26, 22) are mounted on elliptically crossed-section cylindrical surfaces along the former for causing gradient magnetic fields within the examination region. Each of the x, y, and z-gradient coils includes a plurality of arrays or groups of coil loops. The arrays of coil loops are symmetric about a central plane of symmetry. To either side of the plane of symmetry, each of the first of the x, y, and z coil arrays (74, 80, 90) include at least a first group of loops in which current flows in a clockwise direction and a second array of loops (76, 82, 90) in which current flows in an opposite direction.

Each connection panel (66) includes transceiver ports (68) for connecting at least one conductor (22,24) of the coil elements (20) to a corresponding transceiver channel (T/R). The router (60) selectively routes magnetic resonance signals received by the conductors (22,24) from the transceiver channels (T/R) to a multi-channel RF receiver (41). The coin elements may carry sine-mode currents or uniform currents.

摘要: A hybrid imaging system and a patient bed for same are disclosed. The hybrid imaging system includes a magnetic resonance scanner and a second modality imaging system spaced apart from the magnetic resonance scanner by a gap. In some embodiments, the gap is less than seven meters. The patient bed is disposed at least partially in the gap between the magnetic resonance scanner and the second modality imaging system, and includes a linearly translatable patient support pallet aligned to be selectively moved into an examination region of the magnetic resonance scanner for magnetic resonance imaging and into an examination region of the second modality imaging system for second modality imaging. In some embodiments, a linear translation range of the linearly translatable pallet is less than five times a length of the patient support pallet along the direction of linear translation.
