    摘要: A more efficient cooling system for densely packed electronic components for use in an out-of-doors equipment enclosure. An array of cooling assemblies are placed on heat generating components mounted to printed circuit boards mounted in enclosure racks. Each board has a manifold for intake and exhaust of refrigerant, and larger rack manifolds are substituted for rails and are attached to a backplane. A hybrid package including a ceramic hybrid power module and an attached array of cooling assemblies provide even more density of components and improved cooling.

    摘要: An equipment cabinet mounted on a concrete pad. The cabinet includes an upper equipment chamber, a lower back-up battery chamber and a heat exchanger. Ambient air is drawn across batteries in the lower chamber before being drawn into the heat exchanger to help cool electronic components in the upper chamber. Air in the upper chamber is separate circulated through the heat exchanger. A cold plate is placed beneath the batteries and is connected to a refrigeration system. A heating pad is located below the cold plate and is separated from the concrete pad by insulation. The cold plate and the heating pad are used to maintain the batteries at about 25° C. regardless of ambient temperatures so as to extend the useful lives of the batteries.

The method for thermally managing the battery comprises the steps of providing an equipment cabinet having an equipment chamber, providing the cabinet with a battery compartment exposed to ambient temperature changes, providing the battery, placing the battery in the battery compartment, providing a cold plate having a surface substantially coextensive with the surface of the battery, placing the surface of the cold plate in direct contact with the surface of the battery, providing a heating pad, placing the heating pad in direct contact with the cold plate, providing an insulation pad, and placing the insulation pad between the heating pad and a mounting for the cabinet.

    摘要: A simple, reliable, compact, low cost and low power cooling system is disclosed. The cooling system is especially suited for an electronic equipment enclosure which is located out-of-doors. The cooling system runs on community AC power which is converted to DC. If community power is disrupted, the cooling system takes power from back-up batteries. If a compressor of the cooling system drops to a temperature of 0° C., a heating subsystem including a conduit loop that runs around the compressor and into the equipment chamber of the enclosure for transporting a heat transferring fluid, is activated for transferring heat from the equipment chamber to the compressor. A closed conduit loop is used to pump a mixture of ethylene glycol between the vicinity of the compressor and the interior of the equipment chamber. In this way, heat generated by the equipment to be cooled is transferred to the compressor to heat the enclosed refrigerant and the equipment is simultaneously cooled. The power required by the system is very low, because the system is compactly constructed and the arranged for maximum efficiency.
