摘要:
Metallic dry toner particles are prepared by dry blending resin particles with non-conductive metal oxide particles to form a dry blend. This dry blend is melt extruded under low shear conditions to form an extruded composition that is broken up into metallic dry toner particles. Each metallic dry toner particle consists essentially of a polymeric binder phase formed from the resin particles, and the non-conductive metal oxide particles dispersed within the polymeric binder phase. The metallic dry toner particles have a mean volume weighted diameter (Dvol) before fixing of 15 μm to 40 μm, and the non-conductive metal oxide particles are present in an amount of 20 to 50 weight %. The ratio of the metallic dry toner particle Dvolto the average equivalent circular diameter (ECD) of the non-conductive metal oxide particles in the metallic dry toner particles is greater than 0.1 and to 10.

A method is used to provide a toner image with a metallic effect. After forming a latent image, it is developed with metallic dry toner particles to form a developed toner image that is transferred and fixed to a receiver material. Each metallic dry toner particle consists essentially of a polymeric binder phase and non-conductive metal oxide particles. Before fixing, the metallic dry toner particle has a mean volume weighted diameter (Dvol) of at least 15 μm and up to and including 40 μm. The non-conductive metal oxide particles are present in an amount of 20-50 weight %. The ratio of the metallic dry toner particle Dvol to the average equivalent circular diameter (ECD) of the non-conductive metal oxide particles in the metallic dry toner particles, before fixing, is greater than 0.1 and up to and including 10.

Fluorescing highlights can be provided in selected portions of non-color image areas of a printed toner image using fluorescing dry toner particles, such as fluorescing magenta and fluorescing yellow dry toner particles. Before fixing, each fluorescing dry toner particle comprises a polymeric binder phase and a fluorescing colorant that emits at one or more λmax wavelengths of at least 420 nm and up to and including 690 nm and that is dispersed within the polymeric binder phase.

The present invention provides an electrostatographic toner that hasa condensation polymer binder having carboxylic acid end groups and an acid number of 4 or greater. The carboxylic end groups are converted to metal salts having the structure; (—COO−1)nM+n where M is selected from groups IB, IIB, IIIB, IVB, VB, or IA, IIA, IIIA, IVA, VA, VIA, VIIA and VIIIA of the periodic table and n is an integer from 1-4. The present invention also provides a developer of carrier particles and the electrostatographic toner.

A black toner composition comprising toner particles prepared by a chemical process of manufacture comprising carbon black pigment, a first addition polymer comprising carboxylic acid groups along the polymer backbone, and a thermoplastic second polymer binder distinct from the first polymer, wherein the first polymer has an Acid Value of from 30 to 220 and is present at a weight ratio of greater than 1:2 relative to the amount of carbon, and at a relatively lower weight percent than the second polymer. A process for preparation of such toner particles comprising: preparing a masterbatch comprising a carbon black and a first addition polymer comprising carboxylic acid groups along the polymer backbone and having an Acid Value of from 30 to 220, where the first polymer is present at a weight ratio of greater than 1:2 relative to the amount of carbon; dissolving a thermoplastic second polymer binder in an organic solvent; adding the masterbatch to the solution of second polymer binder to form an organic phase, wherein the first polymer is present at a lower weight percent than the second polymer; dispersing the organic phase in an aqueous phase comprising a particulate stabilizer to form a dispersion; and removing the solvent from the organic phase to form toner particles comprising the first polymer, the second polymer binder and carbon black.

A receiver having an image side and a non-image side bent in a bend area including a bend axis. Toner is deposited on the image side of the receiver in the bend area using an electrophotographic print engine. The deposited toner is fused to the receiver. During or after fusing, the fused toner is heated to a selected fusing temperature greater than or equal to the Tg of the toner. A heat-shrinkable film is affixed to the heated toner after heating the toner, wherein the Tg of the film is greater than the Tg of the toner. The toner is cooled below its Tg after affixing the film. The bend area of the receiver is reheated after cooling the toner, so that the temperature of the heat-shrinkable film rises above its Tg, the heat-shrinkable film contracts, and the receiver bends at the bend axis.

When color images are printed on a substantially transparent substrate, such as a transparency film, or on a highly colored substrate, the color properties of image may be compromised. When color images are printed on a substantially transparent substrate, the images do not have the maximum possible color saturation because a large portion of the incident light is not reflected back. As a result, images appear to be dull and lower in contrast. When color images are printed on highly colored substrates, the color properties of the image are also influenced by the color of the substrate. In order to enable printing on such substrates, an opaque toner was developed which comprises predispersed inorganic filler with a refractive index of greater than 1.75.
