    摘要: A brush seal assembly is radially and axially repositionable relative to stationary and rotating components. Shim packs whose thickness can be reduced by peeling adhesively attached foil layers from the shim packs are used to provide both axial and radial repositioning. In another form, a plurality of set screws may be threaded into a mounting member for the brush seal assembly to controllably space the brush seal from the rotating component. In a further form, an eccentric cam is rotated to reposition the brush seal assembly radially inwardly or outwardly with shim packs being used to reposition the brush seal in an axial direction.

    摘要: A gas-path leakage seal for generally sealing a gas-path leakage-gap between spaced-apart first and second members of a gas turbine (such as first and second segments of a gas turbine combustor casing). The seal includes a generally imperforate foil-layer assemblage which is generally impervious to gas, is located in the leakage-gap, is spaced apart from the first member, and has a first foil layer. The seal also includes a cloth-layer assemblage contacting the first member and having a first cloth layer generally enclosing and generally enclosingly-contacting the foil-layer assemblage. The first foil layer is made from a metal, ceramic, and/or polymer. The first cloth layer is made from metal, ceramic, and/or polymer fibers. The foil assemblage provides for sealing and flexibility, and the cloth assemblage provides for wear resistance and flexibility. The seal accommodates different surface shapes, assembly misalignment, vibration, and differential thermal growth of the gas turbine members.

The method further includes the step of cutting generally across the unwoven section of the first group of bristles to create free ends. The brush seal so made is useful, for example, to generally seal a leakage gap in a gas path of a gas turbine.

    摘要: A brush seal is provided between a first stationary component and a second rotating component. A cooling medium is provided through a plurality of jet nozzles for flow along an upstream surface portion of the brush seal bristles and along the rotating component surface adjoining the tips of the bristles. The cooling medium cools the brush seal bristles to a temperature below the temperature of the working fluid passing through the turbine. The jet nozzles may be arranged in the shroud or in the upstream backing plate of the brush seal to direct the cooling medium toward the juncture of the brush seal and the sealing surface.

    摘要: A brush seal segment is mounted within a pressure vessel and against an arcuate surface of an element to provide a seal between regions on opposite sides of the seal at different pressures. By vibrating the vessel through a range of frequencies, natural frequencies of the brush seal under pressure loading can be ascertained. Additionally, by adjusting interference between the arcuate surface and the bristle tips, natural frequencies of the brush seal under various interference loadings can likewise be ascertained. The pressure vessel has mounts for attaching the vessel to a shaker table to facilitate vibrating the vessel through the range of frequencies.
