Abstract: A head-up display displays an image as a virtual image to an observer and includes: a display device to display the image; and a projection optical system to enlarge and project the image. The projection optical system includes first and second optical elements arranged in this order in an optical path from the image. The first optical element has a diverging action stronger in a horizontal direction than in a vertical direction. The second optical element has a converging action stronger in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. A combined power of the first and second optical elements is larger in the vertical direction than in the horizontal direction. The virtual image is inclined by 45 degrees or more with respect a line of sight of the observer to have a lower end close to the observer and an upper end far from the observer.

Abstract: A video display system includes a display unit, a projection unit, and a display control unit. The display unit displays an image. The projection unit projects a virtual image onto a target space with outgoing light of the display unit. The display control unit shifts a projection position of the virtual image by changing at least one of a projection distance or an angle of depression. The projection distance is a distance from a viewpoint to the virtual image. The angle of depression is an angle from which the virtual image is viewed from the user's viewpoint. The display control unit changes the projection distance of the virtual image in accordance with a distance instruction and changes at least one of the projection distance or the angle of depression such that the virtual image is projected onto a displayable region of the target space.

Abstract: A video display system according to an embodiment includes a display unit, a projection unit, and a display control unit. The display unit displays an image thereon. The projection unit projects a virtual image, corresponding to the image, onto a target space with outgoing light of the display unit. The display control unit performs change processing of changing, in accordance with at least one of a projection distance or an angle of depression, specifics of sway correction for correcting sway of the virtual image with respect to the target space. The projection distance is a distance from a viewpoint of a user, who is viewing the virtual image projected onto the target space, to the virtual image. The angle of depression is an angle from which the virtual image is viewed from the user's viewpoint.

Abstract: A refractive optical system is disposed in an optical path from a display surface to a viewing area and between a projection optical system and the viewing area. A housing receives a display device, the projection optical system, and the refractive optical system, and is provided with an opening. An opening cover has at least partially a curved portion, and is disposed in the opening so that light emitted from the display surface is incident on a convex side of the curved portion. When a light beam that is emitted from a center of the display surface and reaches a center of the viewing area is referred to as a reference light beam, a head-up display satisfies the following condition (1): L2≤L1 (1) whereL1 is a distance from an end on the anterior side of the observer of the refractive optical system to the opening cover, andL2 is a distance from a position at which the reference light beam passes through the refractive optical system to the opening cover.

Abstract: A screen includes a surface inclined with respect to a reference plane. A driver moves the screen in a movement direction orthogonal to the reference plane. When forming a first virtual image serving as a virtual image on a first virtual plane whose inclination angle α with respect to an optical axis of a projector is smaller than a predetermined value, a controller is configured to hold the screen in the movement direction. When forming a second virtual image serving as the virtual image on a second virtual plane whose inclination angle ß with respect to the optical axis of the projector is larger than the predetermined value, the controller is configured to move the screen in the movement direction.

Abstract: In a display device, an irradiation unit includes an imaging optical system. The imaging optical system scans and irradiates a front surface of a screen with light to form an image. The light passing through the screen and output from the screen in a movement direction is incident on a projection unit as incident light. The projection unit irradiates a reflective member with the incident light to allow the reflective member to reflect the incident light to form a virtual image corresponding to the image in a target space. A locus of a focal position of the imaging optical system when the irradiation unit wholly scans the front surface of the screen is within a range between the front surface of the screen at a first position and the front surface of the screen at a second position.
