    摘要: An improved squeeze casting process is utilized to produce metal castings having superior mechanical properties. The process is particularly adapted for use in a vertical casting machine and is characterized by vacuum ladling, vacuum evacuated mold cavities, low metal temperatures, small metal feed gates and high gate velocities, application of high metal pressure on the metal filled cavity through the feed gate, and short processing times. When applied to aluminum alloy casting the squeeze casting process produces metal castings that can be heat treated at high temperatures to improve their mechanical characteristics. The process also allows for production of metal castings having complex internal cavities. The process relies upon the use of complex core pieces demonstrating superior positional and dimensional stability.

    摘要: Epoxy resin is reacted with a terminating agent to eliminate at least part of the epoxide groups of the resin and form modified resin. The epoxy resin or such modified resin is also reacted with addition polymerizable monomer at elevated temperature in the presence of at least 3% of benzoyl peroxide based on the weight of such monomer. Generally the latter reaction is done at about 110.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C. These two reactions can be performed in any desired sequence, or simultaneously. The final reaction mixture produced contains:(a) graft polymer;(b) ungrafted, modified resin; and(c) ungrafted addition polymer, formed associativelywith the graft polymer. The invention is useful for making coating compositions. The compositions have good weather resistance and are particularly useful for making sanitary coatings for cans for foods and beverages, especially for beer. The coatings compositions can be aqueous dispersions for spray application or concentrates or powders that can be made up readily into aqueous sprayable coating compositions. Organic solvent vehicles also can be used.

    摘要: An acid-solubilized aqueous dispersion particularly suitable for use in the cathodic electrocoating art and stable up to pH of about 9 comprises the product of reacting substantially all of the epoxide groups of a polyether diepoxide with from about 1.25 to 2 moles of a polyamine having from 2 to 5 amine groups to form a precursor adduct and subsequently reacting this precursor adduct with about 0.2 to 2 moles of a mono-epoxide having a hydrolysis-resistant normal alkyl group of at least 4 carbon atoms to form a substantially epoxy-free polyamino polyhydroxy polyether resinous adduct, a sufficient proportion of the amine groups of said polyamine being primary or secondary to provide an amino hydrogen for reaction with every epoxide group of both the diepoxide and the mono-epoxide, and about 0.05 to 0.4 weight parts (per part of the resinous adduct) of an aminoplast resin having at least about one gram-equivalent of carboxylic acid groups with pK.sub.a from about 2 to 6 per 1,000 grams of aminoplast resin for catalyzing heat-induced curing of the resin mixture. The coatings cathodically electrodeposited from such dispersions exhibit superior corrosion and detergent resistance when cured at moderate temperatures.

    摘要: A resinous copolymer polyelectrolyte product is produced by a process for addition polymerization of reactants having from about 0.0005 to 0.0050 neutralization equivalents of ionizable monomer per gram. The aqueous reaction mixture for polymerization contains both a cosolvent in proportions low enough to avoid formation of a solution of the polyelectrolyte in the final aqueous medium and an ionizing agent sufficient to ionize at least about 0.0001 neutralization equivalent of said ionizable monomer. The polyelectrolyte has a mean weight average not substantially in excess of 100,000 molecular weight.
