Abstract:
A cutting torch apparatus comprising a cutting torch arranged to be mounted on a movable frame for movement over the workpiece with the torch comprising a torch body and support therefore integrated into a double acting hydraulic cylinder and piston device in which the torch body is equipped as a piston and is reciprocably mounted in a cylinder through which the torch body extends to dispose the torch nozzle for application to the workpiece. The torch body is equipped with a feeler or guide member mounted for a lost motion movement range axially of the nozzle and having a plurality of feeler elements in coplanar relation that ride on the workpiece in spaced apart relation about the nozzle. The piston and cylinder device are incorporated in a hydraulic system, that includes a hydraulic pressure liquid and a hydraulic pressure liquid flow orienting or directional control valve of the mechanical servo type, for supporting the torch body and moving same axially of its nozzle. The feeler member and servo valve are operably connected for translating the movement of the feeler member in its lost motion range, due to elevational changes in the workpiece, as the torch moves across same, into adjustment of the servo valve to maintain the torch nozzle at the desired predetermined spacing above the workpiece, as the cutting proceed.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for producing flavorful instant coffee. The method includes the conventional steps of grinding and roasting the coffee beans. Also included are a step of collecting the aromatic compounds driven off during roasting and adding these aromatics to the water soluble coffee components prior to packaging.
Abstract:
An adjustable mattress foundation for beds, having head, and foot sections of adjustable inclination, and a stationary center section for supporting the user's buttocks, with locking gas springs being employed as force providers and counterbalances in selectively adjusting the angle of inclination for the head and foot sections, with the actuation of the head and foot sections being effected by the pivoting a single control rod. Changes can be made in the torque application of the device on the foundation head and foot sections for different weights and stiffnesses of mattress by a simple adjustment. The width of the stationary section has a minimum width requirement in order to minimize the force required to make changes in inclination in the head and foot sections with respect thereto, and have minimum stress exerted on the mattress.
Abstract:
A treadmill exercising apparatus of the inclineable slider bed type in which the apparatus frame at its head end is equipped with a cross member that is coupled to a pair of spaced apart threaded screw members for changing the inclination of the treadmill frame, in which the coupling of the frame cross member to the respective threaded screw members is by way of special nut assemblies that each include a tubular member or shell fixed to the respective ends of the frame cross member, a lower nut member that is keyed to the tubular member involved at that end of the cross member, and is in load transmitting relation to the screw member it engages, and on which, the respective tubular members rest, and an upper nut member that is keyed to the respective tubular members for lost motion movement relative thereto, but which is not in load transmitting relation to the respective screw members, whereby the upper nuts are free to float longitudinally of the respective screw members to accommodate tolerance variations in the formation of the threading of the latter.
Abstract:
A treadmill exercising apparatus comprising a generally planar frame equipped with a planar slider bed and head and tail rollers journalled respectively at the head and tail ends of the frame, over which an endless nylon belt is trained. The treadmill frame at its head end is equipped with a cross member that pivotally mounts a motor assembly including an electric drive motor and shaft driven by same that is keyed to a stepping pulley aligned with a stepping pulley keyed to the head roller, and between which a drive pulley belt is tensioned by a tensioning device that subjects the motor assembly to uniform spring biasing action about the pivotal mounting of the motor assembly for uniformly tensioning the pulley belt into drive transmitting relation with the respective pulleys, and with the motor assembly including a hand crank arrangement for manually relieving the pulley belt tension for changing of the pulley belt with respect to the stepping pulleys for convenient speed changing of the treadmill belt.
Abstract:
