Abstract: A device for thermionic arc extinction via anode ion depletion. The device includes a body including an inner compartment. The inner compartment includes at least an arc shield housing at least two arcing contacts, wherein the two arcing contacts are zinc-plated. Abstract: In the inventive touch-operated see-through coordinate input unit, the contacting wires embedded in the upper and lower substrate sheets in a relative perpendicular disposition are divided into groups each of at least two of the adjacent wires and the wires belonging to the same group are bonded to the same electrode. When the upper sheet is depressed with a finger tip or stylus point at a crossing point of the wires on the upper and lower sheets, electrical contact can be obtained at two points or more between wires so that, different from conventional coordinate input units in which electrical contact is obtained at only a single point by a pushing stroke, the reliability of the input operation can be greatly improved also with decreased fatigue of the operator in continuous working of long time.

Abstract: Disclosed is an area actuated switch which can be used, by way of example, in a keyboard for a calculator, learning aid or the like. An area actuated switch array is formed using two insulating sheets made of polyester or polycarbonate; the insulating sheets overlie one another such that one side of each sheet faces one another. Groups of spaced conductors formed on each of the facing sides also overlie one another, and selected conductors traverse the periphery of the keyboard. A plurality of raised, insulating spacer areas or points are positioned on the facing sides and are in registration and contact with each other. An insulating substrate is formed over the conductors traversing the periphery and this insulating substrate has substantially the same thickness as the spacer points such that the spacer points and the insulating substrate prevent the spaced conductors from making electrical contact. An adhesive coating, which may be heat or pressure sensitive, is applied to the spacer points and the insulating substrate to bond these two parts together. The bond created by the adhesive coating over the insulating substrate prevents contamination of the keyboard from dust, humidity and the like. The keyboard structure, therefore, may have an infinite active area such that when pressure is applied anywhere within the periphery of the switch array, electrical contact is made.

The upper insulating sheet has extensions extending around sides of the insulating base and the printed-circuit board onto the lower surface of the latter, the upper electrode having terminal leads extending over the extensions and connected by a heat seal to the electrically conductive pattern.

Abstract: An interactive tabular display system having thin membrane switches positioned on the display surface around the periphery. The switches are categorized as select or function depending on the particular application software program in use. Touching one of the select switches causes a cursor to be displayed in the row adjacent to that switch; automatically, the cursor incrementally advances across that row sequentially underlining data items. When the switch is opened, the data item underlined is displayed in reverse video and additional data related to that item is displayed elsewhere on the display. The switches are provided with backlighting to provide illuminated touch points for use in dimly lit operational rooms.
