Abstract:
An apparatus for application of a liquid or pasty coating medium onto a substrate moving past it, for instance a material web of paper, cardboard or boxboard or an applicator roll, includes a back-up chamber which is bounded on its substrate entrance end by a back-up chamber entrance bounding element and on its substrate exit end by a back-up chamber exit bounding element. The apparatus also includes a feed device for feeding the coating medium. In the applicator according to the invention for achieving a uniform coating application, the feed device, viewed in the direction of travel of the substrate, is arranged before the back-up chamber entrance bounding element.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an applicator for direct or indirect application of a coating medium onto a traveling material web, notably of paper or cardboard, including a dosing apparatus with a dosing slot configured as an open-jet nozzle and formed between two lips. The applicator also includes a coating edge delimiting apparatus with at least two coating edge delimiting elements that are arranged between the two lips and close off the dosing slot on its side edges, substantially sealing it.
Abstract:
Apparatus for the application of at least one liquid medium onto a moving material web, in particular of paper or cardboard, including an application mechanism (3) for the liquid medium and a roller (2) associated with the application mechanism for receiving the liquid medium in the case of an indirect application or for guiding the material web in the case of direct application, the application mechanism (3) including a dosaging blade (4) and a damming strip (7) arranged at a distance from the dosaging blade as seen against the direction of rotation of the roller (2), the damming strip together with the dosaging blade defining an application chamber (6), a running-off surface (8) over which the excess liquid medium flows out of the application chamber (6) and over the damming strip (7), and wherein the dosaging blade (4) has a blade holder (5) with a base strip (5b) mounted in the application mechanism (3). The blade holder (5) is bent in such a manner that the cross-sectional extension (R) of the base strip (5b) forms an angle (.alpha.') with the roller rotational direction (T) at the dosaging blade (4) of at least approximately 90.degree. or more.
Abstract:
A dosing system with a doctor element fashioned as a doctor rod, for the coating of material webs which are passed over at least one roll coordinated with the doctor element. The doctor element is accommodated in a bed supported by a holder of integral design with the bed and held on the wall of a mounting which at the same time is a bounding wall of the mouth channel for the coating mixture. The holder features on its end on its side opposite the mounting wall a clamping or mounting surface. The holder possesses in the end area of the mounting wall bounding on the feed channel a jump in thickness. On its side opposite the said clamping or mounting surface, a protuberance is provided with a bevel which with the bounding wall of the holder contained on the side opposite the clamping or mounting surface forms an angle between 15.degree. and 55.degree., which bounding wall surface is flush with the surface of the mounting wall.
Abstract:
An improved paper coating applicator has a body portion defined by forward and rearward relatively movable walls defining a chamber therebetween with an elongate opening thereto positionable generally below, adjacent to and transversely of a paper web, the chamber receiving coating liquid and directing the same generally upwardly through the opening and onto the web. According to one aspect of the improvement, the chamber and a distribution header for introducing coating material therein are of a design enhancing a very uniform application of coating material onto the web. In another aspect, a unique seal structure provides a secure, fluid tight connection between the front and rear walls.
