摘要: An apparatus and method for determining the position of magnetic tape within a magnetic tape cassette to ascertain whether the magnetic tape is in a rewound position within the cassette is provided. In a first aspect of the present invention, the magnetic tape cassette has two internal magnetic tape take-up reels. The magnetic tape stored on the tape-up reels is detected. The rewound status of the tape is determined by whether the magnetic tape is detected on only one reel or on both reels. In a second aspect of the present invention, a preselected amount of magnetic tape is detected within the magnetic tape cassette. The magnetic tape cassette is oriented and the position of the detected magnetic tape is determined relative to the orientation of the magnetic tape cassette. In a third aspect of the present invention, an electronically detectable member positioned in a known location of the cassette is detected. A preselected amount of magnetic tape within the cassette is detected. The time difference between the detection of the magnetic tape and the detection of the electronically detectable member is used to determine the position of the magnetic tape relative to the cassette. The electronically detectable member can be an electronic article surveillance marker.

摘要: A multi-bit electronic article surveillance marker includes an antenna circuit and is powered by an interrogation field generated by EAS detection equipment and received by the marker's antenna circuit. The marker generates a multi-bit signal by selectively disturbing the interrogation field. The disturbances may be created by selectively short circuiting the marker's antenna circuit. All of the marker circuitry, including a coil that is part of the antenna circuit, may be provided as circuit elements formed on a semiconductor integrated circuit substrate.

摘要: A dual frequency microwave EAS tag includes a dual frequency antenna circuit formed on one side of a substrate. The antenna circuit includes a diode. A deactivation circuit is formed on the other side of the substrate. A conductive connection passes through a hole in the substrate and connects the deactivation circuit to the antenna circuit. The deactivation circuit responds to a low energy ac magnetic field by inducing a voltage in the diode of the antenna circuit so as to disable the diode, thereby deactivating the tag without requiring the tag to be placed in direct contact with a disabling device.

摘要: A mobile vehicular repeater detects the termination of a received transmission from a portable transceiver to be repeated and, in response to such detection, activates the up-link radio transmitter so as to send an acknowledgement signal to the message originating portable transceiver station signifying the probable successful conclusion of a repeating operation. Special techniques are utilized to prevent confusion between such an acknowledgement signal and similar prioritizing transmissions on the up-link frequency.

摘要: In radio communication systems transmitting voice and data, data is frequently transmitted at the beginning of the transmission, and this may then be followed by voice. The sound of the data in the receiver loudspeaker is unnecessary and often annoying. This sound is eliminated by a muting circuit which initially mutes the receiver for a predetermined time following receipt of a carrier signal, and then mutes the receiver when data is detected. After the data ends, the receiver is unmuted if a carrier is still present.

摘要: In a fire alert system energy is harvested from a wire line pair (408) used to provide primary electrical power from a fire panel central monitoring station to a plurality of remote devices (406). The fire panel central monitoring station begins communications with a remote device by modulating the voltage on the wire line pair so as to communicate a first message (502) to one of the plurality of remote devices. Thereafter, one of the remote devices will respond to the first message with a second message (504) by modulating the voltage on the line pair. Energy is selectively harvested from the wire line pair at one or more of the remote devices in accordance with the remote device address specified in the first message.
