    摘要: A broadband-tunable external fiber-cavity laser system includes a laser diode, and a single-mode optical fiber with an in-line fiber optic grating filter. The grating filter includes a grating with divergent ridges so that the periodicity at an exposed evanescent field can be adjusted by translating the grating transversely with respect to the fiber. The evanescent field of light transmitted along the fiber core is accessed at a side-polished region. The laser preferentially oscillates at the reflected wavelength, so that the laser output is tuned by moving the grating. The grating is manufactured by oblique exposure to a holographic wavefront, producing the divergent pattern.

An optical switch system can include a slot-line waveguide optical switch that includes a plurality of wall portions that are each formed from a high refractive-index material and that are arranged to form a channel portion comprising an electro-optic material interposed to extend between the plurality of wall portions. The channel portion can include an input channel to receive an input optical signal and plural output channels to receive the input optical signal from the input channel. A channel switching system can provide a voltage to an electrode coupled to a corresponding wall portion to change a relative refractive index in the output channels via the electro-optic material and thereby switch the input optical signal to one of the output channels.

The periodically filtered broadband light source includes a periodic spectral filter coupled to an optical gain element to generate a light and to filter the light into a plurality of individual spectral slices. The periodic filter can adjust an optical power in each of the spectral slices. The periodic filter can include one or more control elements to control an optical power in each of the spectral slices. Further, a wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network system is described that includes the periodic broadband light source to send individual spectral slices to wavelength lock one or more transceivers. The individual spectral slices sent by the periodic broadband light source match wavelength channels of a wavelength division multiplexer/de-multiplexer.
