摘要: An optical coupling device includes a first waveguide layer, including a first semiconductor material, which is disposed over a dielectric substrate layer. A dielectric intermediate layer overlies the first waveguide layer. A second waveguide layer, which includes a different, second semiconductor material, is disposed over the dielectric intermediate layer and is patterned to define a waveguide. A first grating in the second waveguide layer diffracts light of a given wavelength from the waveguide into a specified diffraction order at a given coupling angle, whereby a first fraction of the light propagates out of the device while a second fraction of the light is diffracted into the intermediate dielectric layer in a conjugate diffraction order. A second grating in the first waveguide layer diffracts the second fraction of the light into a second diffraction order, propagating out of the device at the given coupling angle.

In some examples, the cavities are defined in one or more carriers on a mating surface, on a side opposite to the mating surface, or on a side perpendicular to a mating surface.

摘要: An optical splitting apparatus includes an enclosure, an even optical splitter and an uneven optical splitter that are disposed in the enclosure. A light inlet and a plurality of light outlets are disposed on the enclosure, and fiber adapters are disposed on the light outlets. The light inlet, the even optical splitter, the uneven optical splitter, and the light outlets are connected, so that optical paths are formed between the light inlet and the light outlets by using the even optical splitter and the uneven optical splitter. The light inlet is connected to at least one of a light input end of the even optical splitter and a light input end of the uneven optical splitter, and the fiber adapter on the light outlet is connected to at least one of a light output end of the even optical splitter and a light output end of the uneven optical splitter.

摘要: A passive optical network includes a central office providing subscriber signals; a drop terminal; and a wave division multiplexer. A fiber distribution hub may split or separate out dedicated optical signals from subscriber optical signals between the central office and the drop terminal. The wave division multiplexer separates dedicated optical signals pertaining to a specific dedicated subscriber from other optical signals on the line received at the wave division multiplexer. The wave division multiplexer may be part of a cable or part of an intermediate service terminal.

In another implementation, the wavelength splitting occurs at the set of emission ports. In yet another implementation, two stages of wavelength splitting are provided. The optical signal transmitter may be implemented in a LIDAR system for ascertaining information concerning objects-of-interests.

摘要: An optical transmission device includes a plurality of transmitting/receiving units provided on a substrate, each transmitting/receiving unit includes: an optical transmitter; an optical receiver; a polarization combiner/splitter; and a connection portion. In the connection portions which are arranged at the positions symmetrical to each other, a direction opposite, with respect to a virtual symmetry axis, to a direction of a main electric field on a plane perpendicular to an emission direction of an optical wave of the connection portion which is emitted from one of the connection portions to an outside is substantially orthogonal to a direction of a main electric field on a plane perpendicular to an emission direction of an optical wave of the connection portion which is emitted from the other of the connection portions to an outside.
