Abstract: A system can be used for detecting execution of a swimming activity of a user. The system includes a processing unit, a buffer, and an electrostatic-charge-variation sensor configured to sense a variation of electrostatic charge of the user during execution of the swimming activity and to generate a corresponding charge-variation signal. The processing unit is configured to acquire the charge-variation signal, detect a first sub-portion of signal that identifies a basic movement of the swimming activity in the charge-variation signal, store the first sub-portion of signal in the buffer, compute an auto-correlation between the first sub-portion of signal stored in the buffer and a second sub-portion of signal of the charge-variation signal, and detect the presence of the basic movement in the second sub-portion of signal based on a result of the auto-correlation.

Abstract: A method includes: receiving, from a plurality of sensors, detection signals indicative of fluid flow, the fluid flow having a direction and a speed, the plurality of sensors having respective mutual positions and distances between pairs of sensors in the plurality of sensors; determining, as a function of the detection signals, a first detection sensor in the plurality of sensors detecting the fluid flow prior to other sensors in the plurality of sensors; determining time delays between detection of the fluid flow by a first sensor and by a second sensor in each pair of sensors in the plurality of sensors; and determining a fluid flow velocity vector indicative of the direction and the speed of the fluid flow as a function of the mutual positions and distances between the pairs of sensors in the plurality of sensors and the time delays.

Abstract: A method includes applying heat to a metal oxide sensing element of a gas sensor, varying the heat applied to the metal oxide sensing element for at least a time interval, and measuring an electrical resistance of the metal oxide sensing element versus variation of the heat for a time interval. The measurement of electrical resistance of the metal oxide sensing element versus variation of the heat applied to the metal oxide sensing element is compared to a set of corresponding reference measurements associated with a plurality of different target gases. A further sensor parameter versus the variation of electrical resistance and variation of the heat applied is measured to obtain a three-dimensional trajectory corresponding to variation of the sensor resistance, the variation of said heat and the variation of the further sensor parameter. This comparing includes comparing the trajectory in three dimensions to a set of reference three-dimensional objects

Abstract: A system and method for determining handedness in a device. The system including a first electrode, a second electrode, a sensor, and a processing circuit coupled to each other. The first electrode is placed at a first location, and the second electrode is placed at a second location on the device—the first location is different from the second location. The electrodes are configured to sense a variation in an electrostatic field in response to a user interacting with the device. The sensor detects a differential potential between the first electrode and the second electrode, and the processing circuit determines whether the user is interacting with the device using a left hand or a right hand. The determining is based on data received from the sensor corresponding to the differential potential.
