    摘要: A disk drive comprises a cover plate with preload tension formed across the cover plate for increasing the stiffness of the cover plate. The preload tension is formed across the cover plate after the cover plate that was warped is secured to a base member of the disk drive to become un-warped. Such a cover plate with increased stiffness is not easily deformed and effectively minimizes propagation of noise generated from operation of the disk drive.

    摘要: An actuator latch for a disk drive comprises at least one damping structure disposed at a wall within a recess of a latch body. Such a damping structure absorbs impact force between the latch body and a distal end of the actuator to minimize noise at a transducer on the actuator and to preserve the integrity of the transducer and actuator over time. The recess of the latch body engages with the distal end of the actuator for maintaining the position of the transducer within a parking zone. The damping structure exerts force on the distal end of the actuator with the force being used toward stopping rotation of the actuator.

    摘要: An optical pickup apparatus and method which can selectively perform optical pickup with respect to at least two types of optical disks, on which information recording surfaces are formed, having a different thickness. The optical pickup apparatus includes an optical path alteration unit for altering a path of a light beam so that the light beam emitted from each light source proceeds toward the disk, a numerical aperture adjustment unit, including an annular shielding region which is disposed concentrically about an optical path axis between the optical path alteration unit and the disk supporter, for providing different numerical apertures according to a characteristic of a light beam to be incident; and an objective lens for respectively focusing the light beams having passed through the numerical aperture adjustment unit on the information recording surfaces of the disks to form a beam spot. Accordingly, the apparatus provides a relatively simple structure thereby reducing fabricating cost.

    摘要: An optical pickup compatible with at least two types of optical recording media using light beams having respectively different wavelengths for recording and reproducing information. In the optical pickup, a first laser light source emits a light beam having a relatively shorter wavelength. A first photodetector detects a reflected light beam with respect to the relatively shorter wavelength. An objective lens forms an annular shielding region between a near axis region of a relatively smaller radius and a far axis region of a relatively larger radius. A laser unit emits a light beam having a relatively longer wavelength, and detects only a light beam passing though the near axis region in the objective lens among reflected light beams having the relatively longer wavelength. A plurality of beam splitters directs the light beams emitted from the first laser light source and the laser unit to the objective lens, and directs the light beam reflected from each of the optical recording media to a corresponding one of the first photodetector and the laser unit. The optical pickup of the present invention has compatibility with respect to disks regardless of the thicknesses and various aspects of the disks, and can detect a good signal. Also, the optical pickup is manufactured and mass-produced at a low cost.
