    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes a plurality of variable valve timing mechanism (VVTs), each corresponding to one of a pair of banks. When an abnormality is detected in a VVT corresponding to one of the banks, the valve closing timing of the intake valves during starting of the engine in the bank corresponding to the normally functioning VVT is adjusted to valve timing that increases the power generated by combustion compared to the engine power generated during normal starting of the engine. Specifically, the valve closing timing of the intake valves during starting of the engine in the bank corresponding to the normally functioning VVT is brought closer to the bottom dead center of the intake stroke of the engine. As a result, deterioration of the starting performance of the engine due to the abnormality of the VVT is compensated for.

    摘要: In the case where an intake valve has its phase in a first region between a most retarded angle and CA(1), the rotational speed of relative rotation between an output shaft of an electric motor and a sprocket is reduced at a reduction gear ratio R(1) to change the phase of the intake valve. In the case where the intake valve has its phase in a second region between CA(2) and a most advanced angle, the rotational speed of relative rotation is reduced at a reduction gear ratio R(2) to change the phase of the intake valve. As long as the rotational direction of relative rotation is the same, the phase of the intake valve is changed in the same direction for both of the first region between the most retarded angle and CA(1) and the second region between CA(2) and the most advanced angle.

    摘要: Variable valve characteristic control apparatuses realize a change in a valve characteristic in accordance with a requirement of an internal combustion engine and a three-dimensional cam for use in the variable valve characteristic control apparatus. In the case of an intake valve, two lift patterns and continuously varying lift patterns between the two lift patterns are realized by the three-dimensional cam through the driving of the variable valve characteristic control apparatus. The two lift patterns provide different amounts of lift in the delay side of a peak within a valve operation angle, but provide equal amounts of lift in the delay side of the peak. Since the intake cam has the two lift patterns, it is possible to select a phase where the two lift patterns provide equal amounts of lift and provide different amounts of lift in phases other than the equal-lift phase so as to accord to the characteristics of the internal combustion engine. Therefore, it is possible to achieve conformation to the characteristics of the engine and therefore constantly realize a suitable valve characteristic in accordance with the operational condition of the engine. Hence, improvements can be achieved in the output performance of the engine, the fuel consumption, the combustion stability and the like.

Torque gears are provided on the intake camshaft to rotate with the intake camshaft. The rotational phase of the intake camshaft relative to the crankshaft is adjusted by hydraulically varying the rotational phase of the shoe housing relative to the vane rotor.

    摘要: A valve characteristic control apparatus is provided with a simple structure in which a cam shaft having three-dimensional cams is axially displaced and the cam shaft is rotated with respect to a crank shaft by a ring gear. An axial driving mechanism axially displaces the intake cam shaft and thereby changes working angles of the three-dimensional cams. In this case, engagement of a spline formed on the cam shaft with teeth formed on an inner peripheral surface of the ring gear allows the cam shaft to axially move with respect to a pulley integrated with the crank shaft. A rotational driving mechanism axially displaces the ring gear, so that a helical spline formed on the pulley engages teeth formed on an outer peripheral surface of the ring gear and a spline formed on the cam shaft engages teeth formed on the inner peripheral surface of the ring gear. Thus, the cam shaft rotates relative to the pulley.

    摘要: In a valve timing control device, when a camshaft is retained relative to a timing pulley, a hydraulic piston is applied with a force which moves it in a direction toward an advancing-side hydraulic chamber (i.e., in the direction to vary a valve timing to a delaying side) owing to reaction of the driving torque of the camshaft. This force causes fluid to leak out of the advancing-side hydraulic chamber, and the hydraulic piston is liable to move toward this hydraulic chamber. However, fluid of an amount corresponding to an amount of this leakage is supplied to the advancing-side hydraulic chamber by way of a control valve. Also, discharge of fluid from a delaying-side hydraulic chamber via the control valve is stopped. Thus, the movement of the hydraulic piston toward the advancing-side hydraulic chamber when the hydraulic piston is retained at a desired position is prevented. Therefore, the hydraulic piston can be stably retained at the desired position, and a desired valve timing can be maintained.
