    摘要： An image forming apparatus including an image bearer to bear toner; a developer bearer includes a first seal on one end of the developer bearer in a direction of axis and a second seal on another end of the developer bearer in the direction of axis, to supply the image bearer with the toner; a supply member disposed within a range between the first seal and the second seal in the direction of axis, to supply the developer bearer with the toner; and a transfer member opposed to the image bearer. The transfer member has a width shorter than a width of the supply member in the direction of axis. The transfer member is disposed within a range between one end and another end of the supply member in the direction of axis.

    摘要： A process unit includes a rotatable image bearer to bear a toner image on a surface thereof; a developer bearer to supply developer to the image bearer and including a first range, a second range different in property from the first range and adjacent to the first range on an outer side in an axial direction via a first boundary, and a second boundary on an outer side of the first boundary in the axial direction; a cleaning member to remove residual developer from the image bearer; and an abutment part disposed to contact the surface of the image bearer to remove a foreign substance from the image bearer. The abutment part is disposed astride at least one of a first position on the image bearer corresponding to the first boundary, and a second position on the image bearer corresponding to the second boundary.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier; a movable endless belt member forming a nip between the image carrier; and a transfer roller made of metal contacting the belt member at a region corresponding to the nip. At the nip, a toner image on the image carrier is transferred onto the belt member. The transfer roller slidably rotates in bearings supporting its shaft. Members having a higher friction coefficient than that of the transfer roller are provided at end portions of the transfer roller. F1>F3 and F2>F4 are satisfied, where F1 is a maximum static friction between the transfer roller and the belt member, F2 is a dynamic friction between the transfer roller and the belt member, F3 is a maximum static friction between the shaft of the transfer roller and the bearings, and F4 is a dynamic friction between the shaft of the transfer roller and the bearings.

    摘要： A process unit is removably attached inside a main body of an image forming apparatus. The process unit includes a casing and a latent image carrier housed inside the casing. The latent image carrier can rotate in a forward direction and a reverse direction. An ID chip is provided in the process unit for storing various information. A communication unit arranged in the main body can communicate with the electronic-information storage unit to write information in or read information from the ID chip. A control unit provides control so that the communication unit does not communicate with the ID chip when the latent image carrier is rotating in the reverse direction.
