A method and apparatus for image reading and image forming. A shading operation is performed by initially setting an operation parameter necessary for the shading operation and an image reading operation. The shading operation is then performed, an image reading operation is executed, and a further shading operation is then performed after the image reading operation. An operation parameter is then again set when a preparation of a next image reading operation is completed, an image reading operation is performed, and then a further shading operation is performed.

An information processing apparatus is connected to a viewing apparatus through which a document is viewed. A view management part creates view information that indicates a viewed portion of the document where the document has been viewed. A document management part creates change information that indicates a changed portion of the document where the document has been changed. A creation part creates individual apparatus basis change information that indicates a coincident portion where the viewed portion indicated in the view information and the changed portion indicated in the change information are coincident with each other. A transmission part transmits the individual apparatus basis change information to the viewing apparatus through which the document was viewed.

When the available capacity is judged to be not more than the predetermined value, the storage method selection unit prompts the selection of a storage method, the storage method change unit changes the storage method of the image data, and the image data output unit outputs image data.

An image forming apparatus includes an information acquiring unit, a memory-capacity management unit, a setting change unit, an image processing unit, and an image memory. When a volume of image data stored in the image memory exceeds a threshold, the memory-capacity management unit interrupts the information acquiring unit from acquiring information on an image. The setting change unit changes setting conditions for image output to reduce a storage capacity required by image data in the image memory, and changes a condition of a setting item required to be changed along with the primary change. The image processing unit converts the image data stored in the image memory according to the changed setting conditions.

The image communication apparatus includes an image forming unit for forming image information, an image communication unit for transmitting the image information, and a removable media access unit for accessing information stored in a removable medium as an external storage medium loaded therein. If the removable medium is loaded in the removable media access unit, the removable media access unit reads destination information stored in the removable medium, and the image communication unit transmits the image information according to the destination information.

An image forming device management system includes a plurality of image forming devices, a central service station which provides a maintenance service for the image forming devices, and a communication control unit which is connected to each of the image forming devices by a signal line, the communication control unit connecting one of the image forming devices to the central service station via a communication network. In the system, each of the image forming devices includes a message unit which outputs a signal line separation message when the image forming device has no signal from the central service station or the communication control unit over a predetermined period.
