    摘要: An optical disc apparatus, which uses an optical disc having a signal recorded on both hollow and convex portions of tracks, provides stable tracking control. An offset judging circuit judges whether the signal has been recorded only on either of two recording regions adjacent in a vertical direction to the track direction. An offset application circuit applies an offset voltage to an error signal on the basis of a control signal output in accordance with the result of the offset judging means. This effectively cancels an offset in the tracking error signal caused by the existence of recording pits only on an inner circumference side or outer circumference side of an adjacent recording track to provide stable tracking control. Moreover, addresses of presently recorded regions are stored in a recorded address control memory, so that detection that the signal has been recorded on either of two adjacent recording regions can be performed with a simple structure.

    摘要: A light source emits a light beam which is focused on an optical recording medium. The light beam is reflected and diffracted by the optical recording medium. A holographic optical element has divided regions formed with different holographic patterns. The divided regions of the holographic optical element diffract the light beam reflected and diffracted by the optical recording medium, and thereby generate diffraction light beams respectively. The divided regions of the holographic optical element lie in quadrants of an imaginary X-Y coordinate system respectively. An X axis of the coordinate system extends in a direction corresponding to a direction of a pit sequence on the optical recording medium, that is, a tangential direction of the optical recording medium. A Y axis of the coordinate system extends in a direction corresponding to a direction perpendicular to the direction of the pit sequence, that is, a radial direction of the optical recording medium. Photodetectors receive the diffraction light beams generated by the divided regions of the holographic optical element, and convert the received diffraction light beams into corresponding electric signals. Phases of the electric signals are compared, and a tracking error signal is generated on the basis of a result of the phase comparison.

    摘要: A method of recording data on a recording medium includes mapping the data to a set of write symbols wherein each write symbol represents more than one bit of the data. The set of write symbols is defined by defining a set of variable write parameters; generating a plurality of candidate write symbols that specify different values for the variable write parameters; generating a plurality of readout waveforms produced by the plurality of candidate write symbols; analyzing the readout waveforms to determine desired set of readout waveforms; and selecting selected ones of the plurality of candidate write symbols that correspond to the desired readout waveforms to be included in the set of write symbols. The data is written to the medium using the write symbols.
