    摘要: Techniques for providing a face down orientation of printed media at a normally face up output of a printer. One technique achieves correct order orientation in a printer having a duplexing function, and includes printing a page of the print job at a print area, passing the page through a duplexing media path to reorient the page in a page down orientation, passing the page through the print area in the page down orientation without conducting a printing operation, and passing the page from the print area to an output area in correct order orientation. Another technique includes advancing a page from an input source to a print area, conducting printing operations on the page at the print area, transporting the page away from the print area, diverting the page into an auxiliary media path portion and transporting the page, leading edge first, until a trailing edge of the page passes a diverter location, transporting the page in the reverse direction such that the trailing edge now becomes the leading edge, and diverting the present leading edge of the page along a media path leading to the normally face up output, such that the page is presented to the normally face down output in a face down orientation.

    摘要: Predetermined geometric constructs reduce heat loss in a vacuum platen and assist in the reduction of paper cockle in ink-jet printing. A vacuum platen for supporting media during printing is provided with a plurality of heating elements and surfaces interspersed with vacuum ports. The heater elements are laid into surface channels of the platen such that an insulative gap separates the heaters from the main platen support structure. In an alternative embodiment, an insulative gasket is provided for the gap.

    摘要: Accurate advance of a media sheet is achieved by carrying the media sheet on a belt loop support. An upstream pinch roller holds the media sheet to the belt upstream of the print zone. A downstream pinch roller holds the media sheet to the belt downstream of the print zone. A guide shim extends along the media path from a position upstream of the upstream pinch roller, passed the upstream pinch roller under a printhead adjacent to the print zone. The location of a lead edge of the guide shim relative to the print zone determines the minimum bottom margin for the inkjet printing device. The guide shim presses the media sheet to the belt support and keeps the media sheet flat under the inkjet printhead as the printhead moves over the media sheet.

    摘要: A carriage is driven along a carriage rod. The carriage includes a roller or a sled which runs along a track. As the carriage moves along the rod the roller or sled runs along the track. Defects in the roller or bumps along the track cause the carriage to rotationally vibrate about the carriage rod during movement. A vibration isolator (e.g., tuned spring) is included at the connection between the carriage and the roller or sled. Such isolator absorbs vibrations introduced by the roller, sled or track. The reduced vibrations lead to improved print quality for printers having smaller dot size or increased precision.

    摘要: A printer has a media transport with a rigid, air-transmissive platen. A movable air-transmissive flexible web overlays the platen. A suction device communicates with the platen to draw air through the web and through the platen such that a sheet of media carried on the web is biased toward the platen. A valve sheet overlays or underlies the platen, and includes a plurality of shut-off elements, each movable in response to temperature changes between a closed position in which the element contacts a portion of the platen to prevent air flow through that portion of the platen, and an open position, in which the element is spaced apart from the platen to admit air to the platen portion. The shut off elements may include resistive heaters and bimetallic strips, so that application of electricity generates heat to flex the strip to an open position.

A transport belt is provided with an array of perforations such that vacuum flow is restricted. In an alternative embodiment, belt lifting is controlled and substantially eliminated via vacuum ports associated with non-perforated regions of the transport belt.
