Abstract: The present invention relates to OLED devices and stacks for OLED devices that include a symmetric emissive-layer architecture. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to an emissive stack having three layers, wherein the top and bottom layers emit light in the same or similar color region while the middle layer emits light in a different color region than the other two layers. In such an embodiment, the three layers are in contact with each other with no other layers in between. The symmetric emissive-layer architecture of the present invention can be used to improve the color stability of OLED devices.

Abstract: A compound having the formula Ir(LA)n(LB)3−n, having the structure, Formula I, is disclosed. In Formula I, Z1, Z2, Z3, and Z4 each independently are N or CR2; X is O, S, or Se; n is an integer from 1 to 3; R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 each independently represent mono- to a maximum possible number of substitutions, or no substitution; R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 are each independently selected from a variety of substituents; any two substitutions in R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 are optionally joined to form a ring; at least one pair of substitutions in R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 are joined together to form a bridge structure comprising a backbone structure that forms a fused first ring, which can be further substituted; and the backbone structure is saturated. Abstract: Methods of making novel organic compounds containing a twisted aryl group are provided. In particular, the compounds provided contain a 2-phenylpyridine ligand having a twisted aryl group on the pyridine portion of the ligand. The compounds may be used in organic light emitting devices, particularly as emitting dopants. Devices comprising the compounds containing twisted aryl may demonstrate improved color, efficiency, stability and manufacturing.

Abstract: A device is provided with a first OLED having a peak wavelength in the range 500-600 nm and a second OLED having a peak wavelength in the range 400-500 nm. Less than 2% of the light emitted by the first OLED has a wavelength of 650 nm or longer and less than 2% of the light emitted by the second OLED has a wavelength of 650 nm or longer.
