Abstract:
A method and apparatus for communicating both voice and control data between a communication device (such as a cellular phone) and an external accessory (such as a hands-free kit) over a data bus. The method includes formatting a sequence of bits into a repeating sequence of first time slots and second time slots, transmitting the voice data in the first time slot, and transmitting the control data in the second time slot. Notably, a first bit of each of the second time slots comprises a clock bit that alternates between a high value and a low value (e.g. a ‘1’ or a ‘0’) as between consecutive second time slots.
Abstract:
A novel and improved digital FM audio processor for use in a dual-mode communication system selectively operative in either FM or code division multiple access (CDMA) modes. Analog voice or voice-band data is input to a speech encoder/decoder (CODEC) which converts the analog signal to a digital signal. The digital FM signal is read from the CODEC, filtered, compressed, up-sampled and combined with a transponded SAT signal and then modulated for RF transmission. On the receive side, the FM analog signal is received, demodulated, down-sampled, expanded, and filtered before being converted to the proper format (&mgr;-law, a-law, or linear) for the speech CODEC. The CODEC then converts the digital FM audio signal into an analog waveform for conversion to sound. By performing the FM audio processing digitally, the same digital signal processing (DSP) firmware may integrated on the same application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) which is capable of performing audio processing of both FM and CDMA audio signals.
Abstract:
A hands free telephone system includes a telephone having audio circuits for processing an audio signal and a telephone audio connector for transmitting the audio signal between the audio circuits and the telephone audio connector. A telephone holder has a holder program for instructing the telephone holder to perform telephone functions in accordance with the stored program. The telephone holder has a holder audio connector for mechanically mating with the telephone audio connector and transmitting the audio signal between the telephone audio connector and the programmable holder. A programming device includes circuitry for storing and transmitting the holder program and the programming device has a programming connector for mechanically mating with the holder audio connector and transmitting the holder program between the programming device and the telephone holder by way of the mated programming connector and the holder audio connector, whereby the holder audio connector is adapted to transmit both the audio signal and the holder stored program. The telephone audio connector can be disposed upon the telephone holder.
