In the coordinate detection of resistive film system, detection of the coordinates of simultaneously designated two points is made possible. On a touch panel composed of two conductive films, whether input is made in a point or simultaneously at two points is judged by a current monitor. Simultaneous inputs at two points decrease the apparent resistance of the conductive film, and can be detected by an increase in the current. If the input of a point is identified, the coordinate data of the input point are retained as latest coordinate data in a RAM. If simultaneous inputs at two points are identified, coordinate data are obtained from the coordinate data retained in the RAM and from the potentials in the x and y directions, obtained from two conductive films constituting a touch panel, through amplifiers, and are outputted, together with the coordinate data retained in the RAM, as the coordinate data of the two points.

When the input operation is continued up to a terminal point, the input point shifts to area. However, vibrations are detected by using the same sensors to calculate a coordinate value as long as the input operation is continuously performed. With this operation, since sensors are not changed for the respective areas, discontinuity of lines at the boundaries between the areas can be prevented.

An object of the invention is to provide a coordinate input apparatus which phase-shifts an input signal in accordance with temperature and corrects a phase shift due to a change in temperature, thereby performing coordinate input. A phase shift unit of a temperature phase shift circuit is constituted by connecting two thermistors having the same temperature characteristics and two capacitors having the same capacitance to constitute a bridge circuit. An output (Eout) has a gain of 1 with respect to an input (Ein) and is phase-shifted by tan.sup.-1 [(-2.omega.CR)/.+-.(1-.omega.CR).sup.2)], where R represents a value which exponentially varies in accordance with temperature. For this reason, the output signal can be phase-shifted in accordance with a change in temperature. When this circuit is applied to a coordinate input apparatus using an ultrasonic wave vibration, the phase shift of a vibration due to variations in temperature is corrected, thereby enabling coordinate input stable with respect to changes in temperature.

When a distance is measured with the use of the transfer of supersonic wave, the transfer delay time is measured at the specified portion of a detected signal. The position of the specified portion to be measured may shift due to the level of the detected signal or noise. The signal obtained by delaying the specified time the envelope of the detected signal is generated. The signal obtained by attenuating the envelope at the specified rate and adding the specified offset is also generated. A gate signal is formed by obtaining the differential of these two generated signals. The delay time is measured during the gate period. With this configuration, the gate-period timing is immune to influences of the signal level and noise, providing highly precise coordinate inputs.

According to the present invention, a vibration transmission plate has anisotropic properties that are associated with two axes. As a result, the speeds at which vibrations arrive at vibration sensors differ depending on which pair of vibration sensors, 6a and 6d, or tb and 6c, is involved. Therefore, the vibration transmission speeds are measured for the individual pairs of vibration sensors, 6a and 6d, and 6b and 6c, and the measured values are stored as known values. These values are employed as constants to be used for calculations performed to acquire coordinates.

A highly portable information processing apparatus projects a hand-written input image in real time while the projected image is not hindered by the hand-writing operation. An image to be projected is displayed on a transmission type liquid crystal display provided in a main control unit and a light beam is projected from the bottom thereof. The light beam passes through lenses and is projected to a coordinate input plate and reflected thereby, passes through lenses, is reflected by a reflection plate and then projected to a screen. The coordinate input plate allows the viewing of the projected image from a plane opposite to the projection plane so that an operator may point a desired coordinate while watching the image. The pointed coordinate is displayed by a main control unit on the liquid crystal screen as an image. The projected light is not intercepted by an obstacle in a path to projection on the screen.
