摘要: A brace for a part of a body includes a first conductive fiber associated with a first polarity, and a second conductive fiber associated with a second polarity different from the first polarity. The second fiber is woven together with the first fiber and insulated from the first fiber. The brace also includes a selectively electrically activated cross-linking agent between the first and second fibers. The agent is constructed to cross-link in a first active mode when the first and second fibers are electrified and is constructed to not cross-link in a second inactive mode when the first and second fibers are not electrified. The brace surrounds a body part, such as a knee or neck. The agent can include an ER fluid and/or EAP. A brace system includes a selectively electrically activated brace for the part of the body.

摘要: Systems, devices, and methods for measuring an under foot load profile of a tibial fracture patient during a period of partial weight bearing are described. The system may include a walking boot cast. A housing, including an inner surface and an upper surface that cooperate to define an inner cavity, may be oriented with respect to a patient's tibia. The upper surface is slidably received within the inner cavity in a piston and cylinder configuration. The system may include a pressure sensor configured to monitor the load profile of a patient during the desired period of partial weight bearing. The pressure sensor may be located below the upper surface. The system may include a noncompressible force transmitter positioned within the inner cavity and at least partially encapsulating an upper portion of the pressure sensor to transmit pressure within the housing to the pressure sensor.

摘要: A heel supporting and protective boot for bed-ridden patients who may otherwise develop pressure sores on their heel. The body of the boot is comprised of unitary exterior and interior body forms that are stitched together to combine fiber filling and an angled foam wedge. The boot additionally has sewn tube holes on both sides allowing for insertion of medical tubing, as may be necessary. The inner fabric of the boot is antibacterial and moisture absorbent, while the outer fabric is moisture repellant. The boot is fabricated with left and right “Y-straps” that provide secure upper and lower fastening of the boot as it envelops the patient's foot and lower leg. Also utilized are two “loop” straps and a T-stabilizer which stabilize the boot and keep the foot at a 90 degree angle to help eliminate foot drop. An opening at the heel of the boot, and a circular cutout in the foam wedge, allow the heel to remain exposed to air, provide proper elevation, and enhance blood circulation. The fiber/foam combination, dual fabric covering, foot positioning straps, and open heel design all work together to enhance the healing of existing ulcers, while minimizing the occurrence of foot drop and the occurrence of new pressure points.

摘要: A support shell arrangement (20) is provided for arranging on a lower leg, having a foot part (23) and a calf part (21). The calf part includes two calf struts (29, 30) disposed at the side of an entry opening (32) of the calf part, extending in the longitudinal axis of the calf part, and a heel strut connected to the calf struts in a strut connection and extending toward a heel part of the foot part. A support bow arrangement (24) has two bow struts (34, 35) extending in a U-shape about a sole area, the free strut ends thereof being pivotally connected in pairs in a common pivot joint (43, 44) on a joint axis corresponding to the ankle joint and connected to a calf strut, and connected to each other in a V-shape by a common support basis (36). The support basis is pivotally connected to the heel strut of the calf part at the heel side end thereof.

摘要: A knee immobilizer (10) including an elongate frame (12) having opposed convex and concave major surfaces for being positioned along a longitudinal axis of a dorsal aspect of a leg from above to below the knee, and a plurality of outwardly-extending retainers (12A-12D, 12E-12G) cooperating with the frame (12) for retaining the frame (12) on the leg. A lining (16) is provided forbeing positioned between the frame (12) and the leg when in use to cushion and protect the leg against direct contact with the frame (12). A spine (18) is provided for being positioned on the frame (12) substantially along an elongate axis of the frame (12) from above to below the knee and formed in an angle for maintaining the frame (12) in a predetermined rigid medical treatment extension position on the leg.
