Abstract:
Improved apparatus and method for installing a filter sleeve in filtration apparatus is provided. In its basic form, the present invention uses a filter sleeve with a pre-installed end cap bonded to at least one of its ends. Through use of a bonding process such as sonic welding, the end cap and filter sleeve form a tight seal with one another which is durable and quite resistant to leakage. The end cap can be provided with receptacles to allow for ready interface with existing filtration apparatus, eliminating presently utilized mounting procedures which can be ineffective, burdensome, and time consuming. Additionally, improved method is also provided for securely sealing the opposite end of the filter sleeve.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for the separation and purification of cellulose ethers and other cellulose derivatives in a filter unit at relatively high temperatures and with narrow-mesh filters, employing a pressure vessel having candle filters to which pressure is introduced for separation of the suspension liquid, for the removal of residual liquid from the filter cake formed, and also for washing the filter cake.
Abstract:
A process for drying solid residues obtained in filtration processes, in which the residue is first dried by passing a gas through it while it is still on the filter elements, and then whirl drying the residue in a lower portion of the reaction vessel. A system in which the drying gas is circulated is described. This results in a process which permits the preparation of dry filter residues which are easily transportable and avoids problems of separation from the filter elements while still wet.
Abstract:
An improved filtration candle comprises at least one filtration candle, wherein each filtration candle comprises an elongated filtration sleeve including a threaded male neck on one distal end thereof, an elongated perforated casing including attachment members on one distal end adapted to removably attach to the one distal end of the filtration sleeve, and three supports located on an opposite distal end extending radially inward to a center axial point thereof, such that the perforated casing is adapted to slide over a substantial length of the filtration sleeve until an opposite distal end of the filtration sleeve makes contact with the three supports and the attachment members are attached to the one distal end of the filtration sleeve. An inspection cap removably attached to the opposite distal end of the perforated casing is adapted to be removed when inspection of the filtration sleeve is desired. A candle holder that is adapted to hold at least one filtration candle having at least one threaded female neck adapted to removably attach to a threaded male neck of each respective filtration candle such that the filtration candle apparatus is adapted to filter liquid passing therethrough, and such that the filtration sleeve can be easily inspected and replaced when desired.
Abstract:
A filter system for use in a three-phase slurry reactor is provided. The filter system comprises one or more bundles of a plurality of filter elements for separating liquid from a mixture of liquid and solids contained in the reactor. Each filter bundle is connected to a product transfer conduit transporting separated liquid to a location outside of and downstream from the reactor. The transfer conduit is provided with means for backflushing the filter bundle and guard filter means.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing sludge, which utilizes filter plates and flow regulating means to form condensed sludge of higher concentration, have been developed. The filter plates are disposed within a sludge tank and noncondensed sludge is added to the sludge tank to completely cover the filter plates. Filtrate is then removed from the sludge tank by the filtrate extraction means via the permeable walls of the filter plates. As the filtrate passes through the permeable walls a first condensed sludge forms on the filter plates. After first condensed sludge is formed on the filter plates, a flow regulating means is operated to form second condensed sludge, an even higher concentrations of condensed sludge.
Abstract:
A candle type precoated filter for residual volume filtration has a pressure vessel having a cylindrical upper part and a conical base, a plurality of filter elements arranged substantially vertically and including at least one residual filter element and other filter elements formed so that the at least one residual filter element is lengthened toward the base and is longer than the other filter elements and a separating wall which separates the residual filter element in an upper portion of the pressure vessel from the other filter elements so as to be tight against media and to project out in a lower portion of the pressure vessel beyond a length of the other filter element.
Abstract:
A method and a system for separating solids from a solids-containing liquid feed is disclosed wherein ultrasonic energy is applied to a fouled separation element in situ in the separator unit associated with the element while the element is immersed in a liquid to effect removal therefrom of solids fouling the elements and wherein the separation element is backflushed with a backflush liquid.
