Abstract:
The method for the preparation of self-cleaning surfaces having protrusions and recesses, wherein the distance between said protrusions is in a range of from 0.1 to 200 μm and the height of said protrusions is in a range of from 0.1 to 100 μm is performed by applying a solution, dispersion or emulsion containing a hydrophobic material which forms a self-cleaning surface by self-organization when the solvent is evaporated, followed by drying, wherein the material applied can be removed with detergents.
Abstract:
A liquid masking composition comprises from about 2 to about 50 percent by weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone, a water soluble plasticizer at a polyvinylpyrrolidone to plasticizer ratio of between about 0.5 to 1 to about 5 to 1, from 0 to about 8 percent by weight of at least one surfactant, from 0 to less than 16 percent by weight of a saccharide; and sufficient water to total 100 percent by weight. A method for protecting selected surfaces from paint in painting operations comprises applying a liquid masking composition of the present invention to selected surfaces of an object where paint subsequently applied is not desired; allowing the liquid masking composition to dry, forming a film; painting the object, whereby surfaces carrying the film are protected from the application of paint; and removing the film. A method for protecting motor vehicles or other goods from dirt, oil, grease, or other deposits is similarly disclosed.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for use in temporarily protecting a paint booth surface are described which allow removal of the protective composition and undesired overspray with a low pressure stream of water. The protective composition is a mixture containing at least a hydrophobic solvent, a surfactant and a thickener.
Abstract:
A vehicle masking material and method of use. The masking material in one embodiment includes a dextrin, a plasticizer, and water. The masking material may additionally include a surfactant. The masking material is applied to a surface which is to be protected from paint overspray or other coating processes, allowed to dry, and the surface is coated (e.g. with paint). After drying of the paint, or other coating, the masking material is removed by water washing.
Abstract:
A vehicle masking material and method of use. The masking material in one embodiment includes polyvinyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, glycerine or triethylene glycol, a surfactant, and water. The masking material is applied to a surface which is to be protected from paint overspray or other mechanical process, allowed to dry, and paint is applied. After drying of the paint, the masking material is removed by peeling or water washing.
Abstract:
An improved liquid spray masking composition including an effective amount of a nonvolatile polyhydroxy component is provided. The preferred polyhydroxy components comprise polyglycerols, especially corn syrup. The presence of such materials in masking compositions improves performance of the compositions with respect to inhibition of high temperature swelling, blistering or spotting of the painted surface to which it is applied.

Abstract:
A vehicle masking material and method of use. The masking material in one embodiment includes polyvinyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, a plasticizer, a surfactant composition including a functional derivative of a fluorinated alkyl chain, and water. The masking material is applied to a surface which is to be protected from paint overspray or other mechanical process, allowed to dry, and paint is applied. After drying of the paint, the masking material is removed by peeling or water washing.
