Abstract:
In a hydro-jet housing the form block, possibly with core, is stripped of mold sand by means of a high-pressure water jet. The sand is fed in the form of a muddy pulp to a first hydrocyclone, where the water is largely separated and is supplied for the formation of new muddy pulp. The sand flows into a scrubbing mechanism for knocking off its binding material, which has settled as a coat around the sand grains. After being scrubbed, the sand is fed to a second hydrocyclone for hydro-extracting water and dislodged binding material from the sand. The sand is then dried and cooled and is available for further use. The contaminated water is neutralized with flue gas, after which a flocculation agent is added to it and the water is then purified for reuse in a settling tank and possibly in a filter.
Abstract:
A unique method of molding articles is provided, which comprises forming a chemically bonded sand mold, casting an article therein and then subjecting the article while in the sand mold to a blasting force sufficient to remove the sand from the molded article and also essentially destroy the bond which holds the sand particles together to thereby render the sand reusable in a subsequent mold forming operation.
Abstract:
A decoring method and system is provided. The method includes the steps of providing the casting having a core material disposed in the internal passage; providing the decoring apparatus configured to selectively oscillate the casting and selectively rotate the casting; securing the casting in the decoring apparatus; introducing a quantity of shot into the internal passage of the casting; oscillating the casting; and rotating the casting. A decoring apparatus configured to selectively oscillate the casting along a first axis, rotate the casting about a second axis, and rotate the casting about a third axis, is also provided.
Abstract:
A method includes removing a casting shell and core from a cast component, which may be a gas turbine blade. The method further includes utilizing a focused removal technique, such as a water jet or laser drill, to remove a portion of a virtual pattern cast (VPC) shell from the cast component. The cast component is then exposed to a leaching solution and high pressure water wash to remove an internal core material and a portion of the VPC shell remainder from the cast component. The method further includes exposing the cast component to a high agitation leaching solution and to the high pressure water wash for a minimal time. An electroless nickel-boron coating is then applied to the cast component, and an electrolytic palladium coating is further applied to the cast component. The cast component is further exposed to a high agitation leaching solution for an extended period.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for improving the quality and mechanical properties of an aluminum alloy engine cylinder block or other large or complex castings by providing sand molds bound with a soluble binder only at locations on said casting from which rapid cooling for directional solidification and/or improved localized mechanical properties are desired with said molds being otherwise bound at the remaining locations only with a more typical insoluble binder.
Abstract:
A device for removing sand from a work by vibration which vibrates a molding (work) molded by casting such as an auto part to thereby remove core sand remaining on a hollow portion of the work and in which the work is held against a vibration plate and the vibration plate is vibrated with a single vibration motor to remove the sand. The device for removing sand from a work 1 by vibration which removes sand remaining on the work 1 by vibration, the device comprising a base 3, a vibration plate 5 mounted on the base 3 via elastic support members 4, a work holder 6 provided on the vibration plate 5, and a vibration motor 7 connected to the vibration plate; wherein the work is held with the holder 6, and the vibration motor 7 is then actuated to vibrate the vibration plate 5, thereby applying vibration to the work 1 held with the holder 6 to remove the sand from the work 1.
