摘要: Systems and methods for launching munitions are provided. In some embodiments, the system may include a cover for use with a munitions launcher including a housing with a face. The cover may include a lid, a defined passage through the lid, and an actuator. The lid may be configured to mount to the face of the munitions launcher. The defined passage through the lid may be sized to allow a munition to pass through the lid when launched by the launcher and to substantially cover any other munitions disposed at least partially within the munitions launcher. The actuator may be configured to operate the lid in a manner that moves the defined passage in relation to the face of the munitions launcher. Movement of the defined passage in relation to the face of the munitions launcher may uncover at least one munition that was substantially covered prior to the movement of the defined passage and substantially cover any other munitions disposed at least partially within the munitions launcher.

摘要: A system and method for actuating a hatch door. One embodiment includes a vertical launcher system that has a hatch door disposed in a plane at the top of a hold. The hatch door includes a leading edge and a trailing edge at opposite ends of the hatch door. When an actuator arm for maneuvering the hatch door is extended, the leading edge is lifted away from the plane by the actuator arm while the trailing edge remains in the plane and slides across the top of the plane toward the point where the leading edge was first lifted away. Such a sliding hatch mechanism allows for quick opening and closing of a hatch door while providing more efficient use of mechanical energy for breaking ice build up or prevent intrusion.

摘要: A reversible sealing mechanism for sealing a bulkhead having a first central aperture defined along a central axis and disposed between first and second compartments includes a cover member having a recess defined therein by a substantially cylindrical sidewall and adapted to cover the first central aperture. A wedge ring having a generally cylindrical body is accommodated by the first and second central apertures and is configured to operatively engage the cover member. A mechanical input is operative to reversibly rotate the wedge ring about the central axis such that a rotation of the wedge ring in a first direction urges the cover member in the axial direction into a sealed position.

摘要: A missile launch system is disclosed that allows for the rapid reloading of missiles in support of missions (e.g., littoral warship missions, etc.) that require a high-volume assault of one or more targets. In particular, the illustrative embodiment of the present invention uses a munitions module that is capable of launching missiles and is able to fit inside a warship. In addition to accommodating multiple missiles, the munitions module accommodates one or more missile types. The munitions module is configured with a door at a breech end to provide access to multiple launch cells for the rapid reloading of missiles. The door is physically configured to define a plenum that couples the launch cells to an exhaust duct for the purpose of venting exhaust gases. The munitions module mitigates some of the problems associated with launch systems in the prior art.

摘要: A missile launch system is described in which a missile launch tube has the launch end thereof protected by a hollow launch tube cover. The launch tube cover is divided into a plurality of segments which are frangible and are dispersed during launch of a missile 62. The surfaces of the individual segments are coated with water repellant material such as tetrafluoroethylene or silicone to prevent ice buildup. Moreover the outer surface of the head of the launch tube cover can be coated with a layer of metallic material to prevent electro magnetic interference or radio frequency interference. The launch tube cover is constructed of a light weight, water proof material such as an expanded closed cell foam including polyurethane foam.

摘要: A cover closes off the open end of a missile launch canister. The cover isesigned so as to seal off the interior compartment of the canister to protect the missile or the like contained within it from moisture, contaminants and the conflagration created by nearby fired missiles. The cover is designed to maintain a minimum vapor pressure within the canister for storage purposes and to burst prior to contact by the nose of the missile contained within the canister upon the occurrence of a predetermined accumulation of vapor pressure within the canister after firing of the missile or the like. The cover is formed of a laminate of fiberglass cloths having an electromagnetic interference shield and vapor barrier adhered to the interior surface of the cover. A layer of rubber protects the fiberglass laminate from scratching or puncturing and a polyurethane layer over the rubber layer provides a moisture seal as well as insulation from other contaminants. An aluminum ring is used to secure the cover to the canister.

摘要: A missile is housed in a launcher from which it is launched by efflux gases from a thrust motor of the missile. A closure device is secured by retaining screws in a position in which it closes off the rear end of the missile and embodies a thrust generating cartridge which is fired to propel the device clear of the rear end of the missile. The closure device comprises a demand cap and base plate and the cartridge generates thrust first to release the cap and plate from the screws and then to displace the domed cap relative to the base plate to bring them to a disposition in which the momentum of the domed cap is imparted to the complete closure device thereby to propel the cap and the plate together at velocity determined by the motion of the domed cap relative to the base plate.
