    摘要: The specification relates to a meter proving apparatus which has a calibration conduit containing a spherical plug for passing along the conduit with fluid flow and two plug detector devices spaced apart along the conduit for signalling the passing of the plug. The conduit has enlarged end stations in which the plug is located prior to a test operation and there being valve controlled by-passes for the end stations so that fluid flow can be established through the calibration conduit around the end station containing the spherical plug prior to a test operation.

    摘要: A mechanical displacement meter prover has a displacer which is devised to facilitate operation with gas flows. The displacer comprises a pair of longitudinally spaced, transverse sealing members, such as a pair of inflated elastomer spheroids, between which is a reservoir of lubricating fluid. Each sealing member is exposed to the fluid as the displacer travels through the prover, the fluid acting both to lubricate the displacer and to assist in sealing the displacer against the propelling gas flow.

    摘要: A sphere launching device and method for use with liquid pipelines and meter prover incorporating such a device. A hollow body has a first opening in a side wall of the same adapted to receive a sphere, and a second opening spaced axially from the first into which a sphere is launched. A shuttle assembly is disposed within the body and is moved between sphere receiving and launching positions. It includes a plunger having sealing means which provides a seal for launching position of the shuttle assembly, a sphere guard and a sphere carrier, and a flow restricting means for restricting back flow of liquid while the assembly is in a sphere receiving position. There is provision for detecting leakage past the plunger at the time a sphere is launched and while the assembly remains in launching position. Also a meter prover apparatus and method making use of the launcher.

    摘要: A ball launcher having dual compartments for both launching and receiving a ball in which the compartments are oppositely directed. Seal means on the outside of each of the compartments for coacting with telescopic sleeves whereby the seals are isolated from fluid flow for preventing damage to the seals. A valve inlet and a ball insertion conduit both of which are removably connected to the valve housing for providing ease of access to the various valve seals. The seals on the dual compartments are supported from removable inserts for ease of repair and replacement. After the ball has been inserted into the dual launcher, the launcher may be rotated 90 degrees to dump the ball into the outlet, and the second compartment will be adjacent the inlet and is sealed off and used for catching the ball. The operation may be repeated by rotating the launcher 180 degrees.

    摘要: This disclosure describes an improved type of sphere launching valve for use in meter prover systems. It comprises a horizontal axis cylindrical shell with opposed openings at top and bottom for the entry and exit of a sphere. There is a rotor axially supported in bearings with means to rotate the rotor at least through an angle of 180*. A sealing means is provided on the rotor so that an expansible tubular sealing element can be inflated by fluid pressure so as to seal between the rotor and the internal sealing surface of the housing or shell. In the preferred embodiment there are two parallel sealing means, these run in an axial direction and a circumferential direction so that they completely seal one of the two openings to the housing from the other. The rotor is shaped as a cup so that when the top of the cup is facing upward a sphere can be loaded into the cup shaped interior of the rotor. At a later time the rotor can be turned 180* and the open top of the cup will point downward so that the sphere can fall through the bottom opening of the housing, down through the pipe, and into the circulating system and the meter prover loop. Inside the cup there is a hinged platform which is held up by a spring, but under the weight of the sphere, when the sphere is loaded into the rotor, the platform will move down to a bottom position. Means are provided, including a rod means passing through one axis of the rotor, and including a magnetic element extending beyond the housing so that the position of the platform whether lifted or depressed, will be indicated by the position of the magnet and therefore an external indication is provided of the presence of a ball inside the rotor.
